A well known singer who fronted a band that performed at pubs and parties all over Chainat in central Thailand was found dead at the scene of an accident on Pahonyothin Road (Route 1) last night.

He had driven his Toyota Altis into a lamppost. The car had most of its roof shorn off and was almost unrecognizable 15 meters away from the dead body of 23 year old Akkarachai or "Ice" who was in pieces in wreckage by the lamppost.

There were marks on the roadway stretching 30 meters, reported Naew Na.

Quoting a friend of the deceased, Naew Na said that before the accident Ice had been at a party at a resort in Manorom district then had gone from there to a restaurant where his last song was Labanoon's "Faen Gao" (ex-boyfriend).

He then said he was going home to his girlfriend in Nakhon Sawan province 25 kms away.

On the way he was making a video call with his girlfriend when suddenly there was a loud noise, the video image twisted and then the signal went dead.

The girlfriend expected the worst and went looking for him. The accident was confirmed when she reached the crash site.

Muang Chainat police warned people not to use phones while driving.

We all know about "face" and that losing face is to be avoided in Thai culture.

Question: does one lose face when making a dumb driving error? Did this accident cause embarrassment to his family?

Genuine question.

No, because it was the fault of the lamp post, or the phone, or the road conditions, etc, etc. Anything but the driver was to blame. Face intact.

Actually it was karma/fate and there was nothing he could have done to prevent it.  When it is your time, it is your time.

It seems that the Penny hasn’t dropped to at least one person. ????

Anyone know what speed he would have been doing to do that to the car?

A competent accident investigator would be able to work out an approximate speed. Even from this short report their is evidence. Eg debri thrown 15 metres, no reaction time I would think , if he was on his phone no braking occured. A good chance of retrieving the last speed from his speedo or maybe a GPS system. The physics of a moving car  to approximate speed is possible , Not sure about here though

Hope she enjoys the memory, should have hung up and told him to chat when he arrived.

So in Thailand they've actually invented the "time machine" aka car, as many deaths seem to be premature.

It was meant to be, it was his time, he could not have avoided it from happening, you can not change fate.....Thai logic.  He will be reincarnated if he was a true believer, if not he will just be ashes within 3, 5 or 7 days depending on how popular he was.

It's selective. A Thai will lie and lie and lie to save face, even if there is irrefutable evidence they are wrong. But, although that simply makes them look very stupid, somehow it doesn't count to them as losing face. Being caught in a lie is losing face, looking stupid isn't. Bizarre.
