stevenl 29,375
Anyone know of a place on Phuket where there is a covid-19 pcr test with quick turnaround? Vachira, siriroj etc are all 24 hours, I would prefer a faster one. Edited November 28, 2020 by stevenl

A PCR Test merely indicates corona virus antibodies NOT a virus. Pretty much everyone on the planet will have corona virus ANTIBODIES hence the high numbers in countries that are using the PCR Test enmasse!!! 2

Pretty much everyone on the planet will have corona virus ANTIBODIES hence the high numbers in countries that are using the PCR Test enmasse!!! This is absolute nonsense from beginning to end, and shows zero understanding of basic high school biology and the principles behind the tests. A PCR test has nothing whatsoever to do with antibodies, which are large globular protein molecules circulating in the blood, synthesised by the immune system after infection. The PCR test detects the actual virus, and not the immune system's response to it (antibodies). A PCR test detects specifically RNA , the long chain nucleic acid which makes up the genome of the virus itself. This is not a protein , and is chemically completely unrelated to antibodies, and has nothing in common with them. The PCR tests are completely specific for SARS CoV-2 because they are based on making sequences of the four letter genetic code within the virus, that are only found in SARS-CoV-2 and no other virus, not even closely related ones. These short chains of coding letters in the PCR test bind to corresponding sequences in the virus RNA and so detect it specifically. This is possible because the 29,900 letter coding sequence of SARS-CoV-2 is completely known from beginning to end and so are the sequences of the other disease causing coronaviruses, and so coding sequences present only in SARs CoV-2 can be identified and used in PCR. Please study before spreading nonsensical misinformation. Edited November 30, 2020 by partington

stevenl 29,375
For those interested, it seems there is no quick test possible. ATM Bangkok Phuket and Phuket International are charging 5900 Baht, Mission a bit cheaper and Vachira 4500 Baht. For the international hospitals there is an extra charge for a fit to fly declaration if required. For all 24 hours turn around.
