Popular Post webfact
State and private sector unite to restore Thai economy in 18 months BANGKOK (NNT) - The 38th Seminar of the Nation’s Chambers of Commerce has come up with ways for both the public and private sectors to adapt to New Normal conditions, and has produced a white paper suggesting ways the state can restore the economy. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Supattanapong Punmeechaow, has received the white paper from the Chambers of Commerce. Within the paper are suggestions from the private sector to the government for the rehabilitation of the economy. The emphasis of the recommendations is on efficiency and utilization of an e-Government system with calls for collaboration on stimulating tourism and dispersing revenue to local areas, as well as improved water management. The DPM underlined that cooperation by all sectors has led to Thailand’s globally acknowledged ability to combat COVID-19 and stated that the government will work over the next 18 months to prop up the economy and bring it back to growth. He noted that many measures have already been put forward to improve the economy, encompassing improving liquidity and relaxing restrictions in the interests of tourism. The DPM said the administration expects Thailand’s economy will contract less than expected by most agencies - quite likelyby less than a projected 6 percent. -- © Copyright NNT 2020-11-30 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
Popular Post Cali farong
Another week another forecast for recovery. A e-government system to stimulate tourism. Ain’t gonna be tourism with quarantine, COVID insurance, visa cost but next week another plan. Do people really believe this?

What tourism ? The few who are let in must pass annoying procedures to be allowed in . As long as these procedures are in place , there will be nothing worth to be called ' tourism ' . " ...Thailand’s globally acknowledged ability to combat COVID-19 " ? May be they have just been lucky until now ...

Were told that in reality tourism accounts for about 20% of the economy... with that said it leaves 80% with all the other companies and businesses... which were only closed for about 2-3 months. So why is that 80% now not back to full capacity and supporting the country?

ThailandRyan
I wonder what my calendars for the next three years would look like if I put down all of these speculative dates for recovery, tourism and the countries people to be sustained. Probably look like my daughters school papers that used to come back after being graded with red x's all over them.

If the students who are doing the protesting appointed a PM and cabinet among their leaders, they would do a far better job than the soldiers in "government" now.
Popular Post OttoPollmann
18 months is a long time, if you are hungry now and the loan shark is waiting in front of the door. The magnitude of the economy collapse nobody really can predict, more worst the prediction is made from soldiers or an appointed sneak. Furthermore, the rice harvesting season will finish soon and the earnings are low right now. This will effect many families in rural area while nobody pays any attention to them. For them, the next big hit will come on the end of the year when the farmer's bank wants its loans back. A field day for all loaners, 20%++ profit in one day and for the farmers the circule is closing. Good luck to everyone.

To provide evidence to your comment it is to be noted in the White Paper submitted by the Thai Chamber of Commerce includes heavy emphasis on "medical and wellness" tourism. Greater detail of the TCC White Paper reveals the plan places particular emphasis on the "wellness" part of it. It is to be noted such "wellness" will have key promotional factors including "story-telling" and "promotional events" in cooperation with local communities. It is questionable whether people get a buzz of "wellness" when they listen to the PM's story-telling or when he takes to the media to promote himself.

djayz
18 months! Ambitious plan that. Good luck. Not trying to sound sarcastic or pessimistic, but I can't help but feel that it could take longer than that, and many more years before (if ever) it returns to what it was just prior to COVID19.
Rancid
So to translate, monopolistic corporations see this as a business opportunity to steal an even larger share of the economy as small businesses are wiped out, and even better get the government to pay it.
