thepdru
hello, can you tell me what is the fastest DNS for you to use in Thailand ? And is it the reason why you changed it ? is it faster ? If we do not change the DNS in windows 10 settings, what is the default DNS ? Thanks.
Popular Post Led Lolly Yellow Lolly
For most users, anyone that says they can tell the difference in speed of DNS lookups is lying. The difference is in the tens of milliseconds, beyond the limits of human perception, BUT, if you want to know. . . Cloudflare, has servers in Bangkok: 1.1.1.1 1.0.0.1 Cloudflare Family safe (filters smut etc): 1.1.1.3 1.0.0.3 OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 OpenDNS Family Shield: Filters smut, VPNs and proxies: 208.67.222.123 208.67.220.123 These are Forwarders, but you can run your own resolver at home if you choose to (i.e. a device that queries the root DNS servers directly) with something like a pfSense box or a Raspberry Pi. I run my own resolver on a very large enterprise network, but query DNS blocklists. Happy tinkering. Edited November 30, 2020 by NilSS

OneMoreFarang
The DNS servers from your ISP should be the best.
Jaggg88
I've always used Google public DNS The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows: 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 The Google Public DNS IPv6 addresses are as follows: 2001:4860:4860::8888 2001:4860:4860::8844 You can use either address as your primary or secondary DNS server. ISP's have to offer this service but they don't throw loads of resources at it so try some others.
mtls2005
So if I hard-code my ethernet adapter to a specific DNS does that "rule" over what I've hard-coded within my router (if different)? What happens to my preferred DNS when using a VPN? Assume it changes but to what? A DNS server located in the country of my VPN IP? And why does it look like my DNS is 172.nnn.nnn.nnn (also Google) when set to 8.8.8.8? Is Google 8.8.8.8 simply directing me to their closest/best/fastest DNS server? bendejo
Strictly IMO, I think people should give some consideration to DNS logging and traceability. You may say that you have nothing to hide, but may feel differently about that if you learn someone/something has taken an interest in you and yours. Some of the other DNS server providers state they have a zero logging policy, or similar words. This is on the Quad 9 website. "When your devices use Quad9 normally, no data containing your IP address is ever logged in any Quad9 system."
