Popular Post J Town
I understand the desire for Tourism Council bashing. That is always my first inclination. Truth is, almost every one of us loves Thailand and would dearly love to see it succeed. Someone needs to take these policy makers aside and have a real "come to Jesus" discussion with them so people WILL want to return. If you can, tip your servers in any capacity possible. These folks are all struggling. Spread a little love around. 4

Some great restaurants there too, a lot cheaper than Thailand. Kiplings at the Savoy is a personal favourite for this old souse. Ha. Yes go there to walk around temples. joecoolfrog
Well apart from spouting baseless speculation , his use of the phrase ' champion of tourism ' is simply a fabrication ! As of last year Thailand was 8th in the list of international tourist destinations ( just ahead of the chilly UK) , the likes of France , Spain and the USA had more than twice the number of visitors.

Popular Post CorpusChristie
Cannot see it myself . 20 years ago , back in the UK , Thailand seemed to be very popular . Back-packers had discovered Thailand 30 years ago , Ko Samui , a deserted tropical island where you can get a hut on the beach for a $ per night . Great cheap food and friendly people . Large hotels went up to cater for people who wanted a holiday visit to Thailand . You could stay for as long as you like on tourist visas . Television holiday programes were all about going to Thailand , Thai restaurants were opening up all over the UK . Soon as you mentored Thailand , the typical reply would wither be "I went there last year and it was wonderful " or "I want to go there next year" , these days the typical response is " I went to Phukett , the people were rude , the beach was filthy , the taxis were expensive . I cannot envisage Thailand getting back to the previous tourist numbers

I believe that people will start to find their own countries tourist destinations and stay closer to home for a while. There will be some international travelers but they will be the ones who can pick and choose where they want to go. Tourism for Thailand will be like it was back in the 90's I am afraid, but will in the long run make it better for visitors as there will be less pressure from the touts and scam artists as the people coming will be more aware of the games played. Thailand as it was back in the 90's sounds good to me.
