A bottle of Wine a day keeps the doctor away....or does it?

Recommended Posts

morning all,

at the moment I am averaging 1 bottle of red wine per day.

I know that this is probably too much and i'm looking to cut down..

However, drinking red wine definitely does have health benefits,

so If i am drinking a bottle of red per day,

but I make that bottle last ALL day,,, am I really doing myself harm?

I dont drink to have fun or socialise,

I drink purely to relax.

I feel that although some people may think a bottle of red a day is excessive,

the speed at which I am drinking them gives my liver time to breakdown the alcohol and thus minimize the risk of scarring.

Am I right??

Any doctors in the house 😉

If you drink a bottle of wine everyday, you are an alcoholic.

Being an alcoholic isn't healthy.

The definition of an alcoholic is more about the effects that alcohol has on somebody rather than how much they drink, although the two are interrelated.   Having been a red wine drinker for

Everything is relative.

Years ago in the Metro in Paris/France there were all over posters with the advice :

"Don't drink more than 1 liter wine a day"

Which is more than a bottle.

Drinking a bottle of wine a day can also eventually cause liver damage. How quickly? That depends on your overall health. According to one article, severe alcoholic liver disease is often linked to drinking 20-40 grams of ethanol a day for women, or 40 to 80 grams for men, over 10 to 12 years. A bottle of wine generally has enough ethanol in it to meet, or exceed this level.

So, while you may not see the impact immediately, it’s important to be aware of what effect wine is having on your liver.

The above is from a health article.

Sounds like you have an expensive unhealthy addiction.  I would seek some help before you have liver failure.

I had a friend who bragged about how much he could drink...he moved away but I visited him whilst in the area years later ... he was drinking orange juice...told me hospital saved his life with eighteen pints of blood months earlier.

A few months later I heard that he had passed away.

Pickled liver.......

My great grandma survived cancer for four years on a raw egg -+ red wine diet.

This was before the era of modern wine making, I view any cheap wine, red or white, as poison, prefer beer or spirits when I drink, which is seldom.

No doctor only google.

One bottle of red wine drunk throughout the day I would say is better than drinking whole bottle after a meal.

I drink beer everyday and alcohol in moderation with meals is good for you in many ways IMHO.

That said everyone is different.

What would you call a bottle of vodka or other spirits per day?

Compared to that a bottle of wine is not much.
