I am not however going to ride 30 km to take pictures of high end cars in parking lots adjacent to the boat landing stages. Not least because the "security guards" who watch over these cars are likely to react less than kindly to me doing so! The "Golden Triangle" is no longer the lawless "Wild West" of legend, but there are still some things which flourish "beyond the law" as it were. A few years ago, I can remember crossing into Tatchilek. I was offered cigarettes, booze, rubies, and young girls and boys by touts after walking no more than 200 yards from the Myanmar checkpoint. I declined all of them, no telling how much strife I could have got myself into by partaking. It may not be the "Wild West" anymore, but the notion it is law-abiding is quite farcical.

How many would have the language skills to negotiate with people smugglers? Some ((fifteen or so ) years ago I went on a boat ride from Chiang Saeng. The driver knew enough English to ask "you want Myanmar? Many ladies, very young, very sexy!" I declined, "made my excuses and left" as they used to say in "The News of The World". After all, my late mother was visiting and I was taking her on the trip! It was a nice ride, and the boat called at a couple of landing stages on the Myanmar side people got on and off. No inconvenient formalities at all.

And there is not much that can be done. You can punish some but you can't stop such a behavior completely. It's much worse in other countries. People sneaking out of home quarantine and riots in many other countries against the restrictions.
Cake Monster
There are some very awkward questions from this Incident that need to be answered by the Thai Authorities. The first one is who ? exactly, knew about these Border Hoppers, and for sure this was known about, not just for the 80 at present, but probably many more past. Secondly, Who informed them of the safe routes in and out of Thailand And Thirdly, Due to the scale of this revelation, how long exactly has this been going on, where the Women could wander freely back and forth to work when they wished. No doubt there are some in a position to cross easily. However, ten casino workers sneaked back and ALL eventually tested positive. If this hi-so cross-border traffic is so prevalent, why haven't more infections and clusters popped up locally and all over the country before this? You can pay off border guards and you can buy your own PCR tests but as far as I know, the corona-virus doesn't accept any money. 1

vandeventer
These people are Super spreaders and need to go to jail.
