More than 80 Thais who worked at Myanmar hotel linked to COVID-19 outbreak skipped quarantine

How could there be? A farang leaves Thailand, they can't get back in legally. How many would have the language skills to negotiate with people smugglers?

Some ((fifteen or so ) years ago I went on a boat ride from Chiang Saeng. The driver knew enough English to ask "you want Myanmar? Many ladies, very young, very sexy!" I declined, "made my excuses and left" as they used to say in "The News of The World". After all, my late mother was visiting and I was taking her on the trip! It was a nice ride, and the boat called at a couple of landing stages on the Myanmar side people got on and off. No inconvenient formalities at all.

If it was a foreigner from the west a white guy can you imagine they throw the book at him for entering illegally not to mention if they’re saying 80 is probably more like 580 the virus is going to spread like wild fire through Thailand I’m figuring within the next two months

Conversation:
Mr Thai VIP:  "Darling, I think I might get a Covid test.  Could you drive me to the clinic this afternoon?"
Mrs Thai VIP:  "Why do you need a test, darling?  You only visited your mother at the weekend didn't you?"

Sorry darling. It was dark and I really don't know why mom's hand travelled into my pants.

Just a precaution.

Nonsense not in China

Who's been topped for ignoring quaratine rules?.

No-one. Not one.

From that CNN report: The statement ends by saying the death penalty will not be ruled out in severe cases.

So it then becomes fact. Everybody got snuffed.

Rubbish.

Makes me wonder whether at least some of the punters are well to do, connected Thais also entering Myanmar and re-entering Thailand illegally. Otherwise why employ so many Thai women? (could be I'm just naive about the whole thing)

Wealthy Thais don't need to cross into Myanmar to enjoy the company of Thai women. They have more choice in Thailand.

Isn't it somehow naive to expect that all people will follow COVID rules and regulations by themselves? And there is not much that can be done. You can punish some but you can't stop such a behavior completely.

It's much worse in other countries. Teenagers in the UK going to rave parties breaking the law. People sneaking out of home quarantine and riots in many other countries against the restrictions.

There are some very awkward questions  from this Incident that need to be answered by the Thai Authorities.

The first one is who ? exactly, knew about these Border Hoppers, and for sure this was known about, not just for the 80 at present, but probably many more past.

Secondly, Who informed them of the safe routes in and out of Thailand

And Thirdly, Due to the scale of this revelation, how long exactly has this been going on, where the Women could wander freely back and forth to work when they wished.

Sometimes the same product in a different country tastes better.

They don't need to but they do.

They also go to Cambo and visit the Casinos.

If this spreads throughout Thailand than the tourist industry can completely forget about any potential return for a couple years

What a fiasco to say the least

A preposterous worst-case scenario if ever there was one. A couple of years?

In other news, at least three Covid vaccines have been identified in an astonishing research breakthrough...

You may of course be sceptical, you may refuse to accept what is something of an "open secret" up here, that is entirely your business -"up to you" as they say. I am not however going to ride 30 km to take pictures of high end cars in parking lots adjacent to the boat landing stages. Not least because the "security guards" who watch over these cars are likely to react less than kindly to me doing so!

The "Golden Triangle" is no longer the lawless "Wild West" of legend, but there are still some things which flourish "beyond the law" as it were.

No doubt there are some in a position to cross easily. However, ten casino workers sneaked back and ALL eventually tested positive. If this hi-so cross-border traffic is so prevalent, why haven't more infections and clusters popped up locally and all over the country before this? You can pay off border guards and you can buy your own PCR tests but as far as I know, the corona-virus doesn't accept any money.

Surprised of this too.

Usually they are called "entertainment workers or freelancers".

They worked like that in a foreign country. In Thailand they would obviously never do that - or at least the job would have a different name. ????

We are about to reopen the country but now measures must be reviewed.”

So the whole country may be kept closed to tourists just because of these few girls? Sounds more like an excuse as I would expect they are a relatively small proportion of people avoiding quarantine.

What does Anutin mean by about to reopen? Those plans seam rather fragile.
