Yoi Khao Khiaw, Si Racha highway police, rescue and fire services were called to a burning pick-up on the Route 7 motorway heading towards Laem Chabang in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Firemen had the blaze in the middle of the road under control within 15 minutes.

Driver Phuriphat, 27, managed to escape unhurt and was waiting at the scene to give evidence.

He said that a tire blew out and the resulting sparks and flames set fire to the cab.

He admitted he was a lucky guy.

Doesn't sound too lucky. How on earth would a blown tyre start that off?

My money is on failed to put the petrol cap on when filling up and threw a fag out the window

Looks to me like a Diesel pickup. Just drop a cigarette in the tank and it will be extinguished.

Have they never seen a burning motor before to have to make a 4 minute odd vid' of one ..

The fire service always video any incidents that they are called to, this one isn't anything different except that 77Kaoded chose to publish this one.

Failed oversized rims and low profile tires. Money wasted to show off instead of proper maintenance. Hope he can afford insurance lol.

What size wheels did the pickup have fitted and how would the tyre profile have any bearing on this incident (even if you knew what the profile was)?  Are low profile tyres fire hazards?

How would you know that this pickup wasn't serviced properly?

I'm wondering what else he was carrying, seems to be too large a fire for a fuel tank by itself.

Paint covering every surface in the vehicle, plastic bed liner, perhaps, upholstery, carpets, tyres, wiring loom...?   Having to wait some time for the fire service to arrive probably contributed also.
