Requesting Covid extension if Non-B/work permit cancelled?

Recommended Posts

My Filipino friend had been working as a very successful singer in Phuket for nearly two years with a Non-B visa. His extension and re-entry permit are valid until Jan 24, 2021. After remaining here for several months, he went home to visit his family in the Philippines in October and is now requesting a COE and hopes to return. After quarantine, he should arrive back in Phuket in mid-January.

Question 1: Assuming his employer will renew his work permit (he says yes, but one never knows...), how many days in advance of the expiration must he report to immigration for a new extension. Flights are sporadic so he might get back just a few days early.

Question 2: Should his employer decide at the last minute not to renew his work permit, could he cancel it and get a 60 day Covid extension? Could he use the 60 days to seek out a job in Bangkok or another location and get another Non-B/work permit without leaving Thailand?

Thanks for any advice.

1. There is no minimum number of days to apply for the extension of stay. The work permit extension might take longer to get and could cause a problem if not done before they apply for the extension.

2. He could apply for the 60 day extension if his extension is not renewed. Being able to apply for another extension based upon working might be a problem or more so the new work permit required.
