AlfHuy
Good morning, Anybody knows how they proceed VAT refunds now? Before, buying an item and showing the form, given by the retailer and you got your VAT back. (airport) How does it work now as we can't travel? Any ideas? 1
Popular Post ThaIrish Sean
You can only get a VAT refund if you are leaving the country with the goods. In theory to pay VAT on entry to your home country. If you cannot travel you cannot leave the country so therefore you cannot get a VAT refund.

You can only get a VAT refund if you have the correct visa and bought the goods within 60 days of your exit from Thailand. No exit, No refund. If you return with the goods customs could charge VAT, they almost never do but can.

You can only get the VAT back if you export the item. If you can't travel, and thus don't export the item, you don't get the VAT back. Travelling out of Thailand is usually no big deal, so you could of course still travel out of Thailand and get your VAT back as usual. asiacurious
Previously there was a restriction that if you are in Thailand for more than 180 days in any given calendar year, you cannot get a VAT refund. If that restriction is still in place, then practically everyone currently here would be ineligible for a refund. Don't know if that restriction is still in effect. The language I'm seeing now is that those who are domiciled here cannot get the refund. I suspect anyone here on a long term non-tourist visa would be considered to be domiciled here.
