Foreign ministry: 20,000 foreign tourists a month set to come into Thailand

A senior consular official at the Thai foreign ministry has said that the country is targeting 20,000 tourists a month.

 

This comes as they have proposed that extensions to 60 day visas will now be 45 days instead of 30 to account for the 14 day quarantine visitors must do.

 

It will apply to 56 countries including Russia, said Jaturon Chaiyakham. 

 

Jaturon said that PM Prayuth Chan-ocha wants more foreign tourists to come in. 

 

Right now the Covid situation is under control, he claimed, and there are 15,000 rooms for quarantine in Bangkok and Thailand can handle 1,000 visitors a day. 

 

The target is to get 20,000 per month to add to the 45,000 already in the country, 10,000 of whom are "stranded". 

 

In an upbeat assessment Jaturon said that the Certificate of Entry (CoE) is now easier than ever to get and can all be done online.

Seems like the headman (PM) ordered various ministries to come with schemes to lure more tourists, so now we get to see various functionaries flopping around trying to pelase the headman.

Please, don't use the word easy....

 

Rather: it used to be extremely complicated, now it's a little less complicated but still very expensive.

Easier still is saving my money, time, and energy by choosing not to take advantage of either this "easier" option or any of the ludicrous schemes to bring in tourists while maintaining the ASQ. Let the powers-that-be come up with all the "targets" they want. I'm targeting my sanity by staying put until there's a truly attractive offer.

20k per month, this means 240k per year, that's 0.6% of the 40 million tourists they allegedly had in 2019. I would say the Thai tourism industry is saved.

In this day and age, you will never get that 20,000 a month whilst the above is in force.  Maybe, if you're lucky. you might attract 1,000 a month.

20000 - 1, I am not going.   Why would anyone want to quarantine for two weeks?   They must think foreigners have all the time and money in the world.   If tourism is this important, they need to diversify.  Those kids have every right to be angry.

And meanwhile in the real world: I've been trying to get a visa since late October. By the time I actually get to travel it will be over two months wait time. They need to seriously reduce waiting times in overseas embassies if they want anybody to come.

AS far as I know Thai Airways have no international flights. So that mucks things up a bit !

Yep.Plus Australia has extended until 17th of March "State of emergency" B.S. so no one's getting out of here until then.Unless you're connected like Abbott,Pedo Pell,etc.

They are saying the right things, but they will be saying a slightly different thing next week.  People here recommending they open the country without quarantine restrictions make no sense; re-start the local experience of the pandemic for what?  Thailand doesn't need 2-3 week vacationers, and can't afford the impact of welcoming them.

 

Really marketing these programs to draw people interested in longer stays will require saying the same things two weeks in a row. 

 

It should have been a 60 day stay followed with the option to renew for two additional 60 day stays from the start.  Financially secure retirees can afford to be in Thailand instead of their own country, where they stand a much higher chance of dying.  By that I mean the middle class, not someone saving up for 11 months to visit one of the lowest cost of living destinations on the planet, to then live on the cheap there.

They can add as many days to a Tourist visa, but at the end of the day, Tourists generally only have x amount of holiday days they can use..

My family is the only reason I come back to Thailand.

Many other and now better and cheaper places to visit.

 

Open borders, tests on arrival, each tourist gets a bar code and daily virus tests.

No one will quarantine for 14 days during vacation...

It could not work. Asians dont take long holidays, only european/americans take 3-4 weeks holidays at the same time...
