Immigration Bureau chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang announced the arrest of three Thai men who were taking money to transport illegal Cambodian workers into and out of Thailand.

The news comes at a time when Thailand - and immigration in particular - is coming under increasing pressure to address concerns about its  porous borders after scares of Covid infections coming in via illegal crossings from Myanmar, notes Thaivisa.

The Cambodians in this story were coming in via natural crossings from the Ban Laem market on the Cambodian side across from Ban Laem, Thepnimit sub-district of Chanthaburi province on the Thai side.

After arriving in Thailand the illegals were taken to a rented house then on to a gas station on the Ban Bung to Klaeng Road in Chonburi.

After this their journey continued to Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom while other Cambodians were returned to their homeland.

Only Thais were arrested in this operation, said Naew Na who reported that the Cambodians had left already.

The Cambodians paid 2,500 baht and 3,000 baht for their journeys in a van and a Toyota Fortuner that were among vehicles taken into evidence.
