Reliable internet

Hi,

Recently moved to Roi Et Province, I was wondering if anybody could enlighten me as to which internet to use in this area.

I will say that previously the home was supplied via satellite but that got fried in a storm so there is a reluctance to use this again but not out of the question if prices are lower.

Topic moved to the Isaan forum where you are likely to receive some more local responses.

Have you noticed any fiber optic cables looped on the power poles in your vicinity?

See the photo below.

If so, you may be in luck and have access to cable internet options.

As mentioned above: first check with 3BB, True and ToT about availability of fiber at your place.

Coverage has grown rapidly and in bigger villages 3BB and True even compete for customers.

ToT now covers a neighboring village which didn't even have fixed line telephone in the past.

If that fails: mobile data. SIM cards with flat rates for 10 Mbit/s exist.

I can't think of a populated area without mobile coverage?

10 Mbit/s is not great but good enough for many applications.

Higher speeds available but cost can rise sharply.

Forget about satellite, a thing of the past, expensive, very slow upload etc.

Doubt that any company supplies that nowadays.

ToT supplied a WiFi like connection with directional antennas (nothing to do with satellite).

Error prone, not very fast and kind of last resort.

When I lived in Warin started out with ToT. They were slow and down alot. Moved to 3BB and was much happier. Took a year after we canceled ToT to get them to stop sending bills. Would take them to the local office and they would say “O don’t worry it’s ok”. Not a way to run a business.
Short answer 3BB ok, go for faster options. ToT stay away.
