webfact
Chiang Rai: Thai police/military arrest four Chinese for illegal entry Picture: Daily News Four Chinese nationals - three men and a woman - who attempted to enter Thailand through a natural border at the weekend were thwarted by a contingent of police and military personnel. They had laid a piece of wood on barbed wire to cross over into Thailand but were soon arrested and sent for Covid-19 processing after they were stopped around 12.30 am Sunday morning. Picture: Daily News They are believed to have come from an online gambling business or casino in Tachilek on the Myanmar side but had no work due to the outbreaks of the virus there and were trying to get back to their own country. They were stopped in the Mae Sai river area in Mae Sai sub-district, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. More likely they would have stayed here illegally, finding employment in some illegal endeavor. 1

Burma's National Route 4 to Mandalay, heads north out of Tachilek, past the airport, to Keng Tung where another road bears north east (the Monglah Road) to the Chinese border at Daluozhen. Perhaps their ulterior motive may have been Chiang Mai, Bangkok or some other city with a sizeable Chinese population. 1
