webfact 78,442
"Countdown" events in Chiang Mai set to go ahead as planned Chiang Mai News reported that New Year celebrations in the northern Thai province are set to go ahead as planned. The news comes as several provinces cancelled "countdown" and other events in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak in Samut Sakhon that has been detected in other provinces. Danai Sanphreuk of the infectious disease department said that there was no plan to call a halt to events. The province has good health measures and is concerned for the economy too. Large numbers of people are expected to ring in the New Year in the province. However, he warned people not to "let down their guard" and said that organisers of events must sign a MOU (memorandum of understanding) that all Covid-19 protocols would be strictly adhered to.
