My opinion generally is that Thailand is very safe for foreigners and crime against foreigners is actually quite rare. Sure, the roads are dangerous etc but on the whole it is pretty safe. Popular Post OneMoreFarang
Normally it's not dangerous. But it always depends on how people behave. I.e. in other nations you might get away with slamming the door of a taxi and telling the driver to f#$# o##. You shouldn't try that in Bangkok. In short: Watch your mouth! Otherwise it can get very fast very bloody. 10

Is Bangkok a dangerous city? I've visited many different spots in Bangkok and I would say it's safe at any time of the day and night. Not dangerous at all if you behave like a sane person, stay away from drugs, don't trust strangers and don't start arguments.

Pmbkk
I lived in Silom/Sathorn and never saw any trouble over many years. Travelled around quite a bit, again no trouble. I also live in London and I'm sure it's the same as every other city in the world, if you want to find it you can....

Popular Post OneMoreFarang
I agree in general Bangkok is safe. But don't count on it. A friend, about 70 years old, walked one night back from Soi Cowboy to his apartment in Sukhumvit Soi 22. He was attacked by one or two guys (sorry I don't remember) and was stabbed at least 20 times with a knife. The attacked didn't first ask him for money. He just started to stab him. Luckily a taxi driver saw this and he brought my friend to a hospital. He was there a couple of days in the ICU, survived, and maybe a month later he was mostly fine again. This incident didn't make the news. The good news is that is the only incident like that which I ever heard about. But the bad news is obviously it can happen. My friend looks like a harmless old man. He doesn't look especially rich and I am sure he didn't provoke anybody. It just happend. And that tells me: It can happen to all of us. Mostly Bangkok is safe - mostly.
Why Me
Incredibly safe. Unless, of course, you are looking for contraband. In which case the risk is getting busted by the cops. Violent crime is pretty much unheard of. I've been here 18 years working with Thais and farangs, partake of the nightlife yet never heard one tale of woe.

varun
Very dangerous. The moment you give in to "welcome welcoomme", "you buy me dink" or "hansum man", it's all downhill from there

Popular Post AgMech Cowboy
It is safe, but as in any place/city/state/country there are always exceptions. Bad things do happen. No one mentioned it here, but I've read the Thong Lor area can be unsafe, but more so due to the police. A friend of mine lived in Bangkok for 20 plus years and one night crossing the entrance to Soi Sukhumvit 3/1 he was tripped by some 'individuals' and mugged (really nice shiners in both eyes), but he was a Scotsman and they didn't get his money ????. We at our company were all surprised at the attack. So, yes, most of us consider Bangkok as safe, but... sh_t can happen.
