Popular Post mtls2005
It's going to be a long, tough slog for the next three months. IHME projections have multiple scenarios, but looks like ~ 635,000 total deaths by March 1. 2021. Best case: 493,000. https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america?view=total-deaths&tab=trend Edited December 28, 2020 by mtls2005 2 2 1

puipuitom
You know, Trump feels himself to the be the greatest, best, etc president the USA has ever had and will ever get. He wants to break still one record: the number of deaths coming from special sources. He still have to let one president in front of him: Roosevelt, thanks to the casualties of WW2. But.. still a 33 days to go...With a 2-3.000 corona-casualties per day, he might get the first place ever. 1

Unfortunately he’s surpassed that # allready he’s managed through epic incompetence to get more Americans killed than the axis powers in ww2 (combat deaths) whats really horrific is there are plenty of people in government who knew what to do to manage the pandemic correctly but trump wouldent get out of their way he will imo go down in history as the most incompetent president in history 6

If China were to blame for most of the outcome then countries like S. Korea, Viet Nam, Taiwan, and Thailand would have Covid deaths per million comparable to the US, UK, Brazil, etc. But those countries have deaths per million counts hundreds of times worse than the Asian countries. So, whatever the effect was of China's initial bungling, the Asian countries nevertheless were able to protect their populations to a very high degree. Yet all of the Western countries failed miserably by comparison, the US worst of all. So, obviously China can't be to blame for the bulk of the deaths. So, yes, Trump and the Republicans are entirely to blame for all the deaths above the rates experienced by the Asian countries. 3

You have not considered the climates and social behaviour patterns of different countries/peoples for a start. I didn't consider climates and social behavior, because those are irrelevant to controlling the virus. All of the successful Asian countries responded quickly, especially S. Korea and Taiwan, and put in place effective measures to test, isolate positives, and trace contacts. These measures together constitute the best practices for controlling contagious diseases per the WHO along with mask-wearing and social distancing. All of the successful Asian countries put in place all of these measures in varying degrees and were successful. None, zero, zip of the incompetent Western countries did any of these steps consistently and effectively. And only the Asian countries, again especially S. Korea and Taiwan, were constantly surveilling China for emergent pathogens, so they kicked their programs into action in 2019. The US, alone as far as I can tell among the Western countries did have an epidemic surveillance capacity in place in China including a branch of the US CDC in Beijing with a staff of 47 including epidemiologists. However, Trump shut all that down in 2017, so the US from then on was as blind as the rest of the Western countries. I am sure the type of Westerner who simply refuses to believe that a country like Thailand could possibly outperform an "advanced " country like the US or the UK, but the facts are staring you in the face. Climate clearly played no discernible role since the second most infected country is India with a climate much like Thailand's. One could consider social behavior to be a factor if you consider a willingness to wear a face mask to protect other people to be "social behavior," rather than, say, "intelligence."

Over simplified on your part China is a country that as far as we know the virus occurred in nature it was NOT engineered by any one person from ANY country it happened to start infections in China it’s how it was handeled after it started that’s The issue trump failed epically in this he is a disgrace as a president he has through his ineptitude caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans that’s sadly fact it dident have to be this bad

Sure, FDR could have kept the USA out of the war, and all of Europe would be speaking German (or Russian, depending on which historian you believe) and Thailand would be a Japanese colony. Trump could have shut down the economy, but millions more would be destitute and homeless. I'm not a Trump fan at all, and will be happy to see the back end of him. But blaming him for a pandemic doesn't serve the truth. Edited December 31, 2020 by impulse 1 1
