According to Thai news site Thairath, 455 of the infections were amongst migrant workers, while 86 cases were from newly infected Thai nationals. The cases amongst migrant workers was the result of testing among the migrant community in the province. Sunday’s announcement brings the total number of cases in the province to 2,401. Popular Post ThailandRyan
Sounds to me like they are separating out the Non-Thai, Non Quarantine cases instead of combining them in one total Statistic. Is this to save face or what is the reason they are not combining all of the tests from all of the provinces. A clear picture is needed. So one can see what is happening and to make an informed decision as to sequester ones self or just continue with daily life, albeit there are certain closures. 19 1

Popular Post darksidedog
I wish this had more detail. A while back they said they would count this outbreak separately, so is this the cumulative total of the numbers they had been holding back over a period of some days, or just today? If the former, OK, if the latter then very bad news and definitely a less than auspicious start to the New Year.

If you have a group that is effectively isolated it makes sense to separate out their numbers because they're not a transmission risk to anyone else. Whether migrant workers in Samut Sakhon really are effectively isolated I don't know, but I think that's the logic. 4 2
Popular Post ThailandRyan
A true lack of transparency. Makes you wonder what the real numbers are. Like many have been saying as well as myself, I do not trust their numbers. No cohesiveness in reporting. 10

I agree, if you're found infected in UK you're counted as a UK case, regardless of where you're from. Think it's a saving face and making the situation look better than it is. 7

Additionally are they being added to the total numbers in the MOPH stats or hidden. No transparency as I said. I think several days' worth of testing, just because there hasn't been any update on the SS numbers for a while. They could make that clearer, but even if it's 5 days of testing, that doesn't mean it represents 5 days of infections, and that's what you'd really want to know. I think it is pretty clear there are cases in Chonburi and the Samut S which is not far from Bangkok. The numbers are getting bigger now they cannot list where every person has been and what they are doing as they did previously. Just assume they have been throughout Chonburi including Pattaya area and Bangkok. So, what ever precaution one feels is necessary I personally will just continue and follow the safety protocols suggested. 4 1

I think it more than likely that Thailand is about to start asking to pass their migrant worker cases back onto the countries they came from to add the infections on their totals - not Thailands. To try and add 80% of their infections onto Myanmars totals 2 1

There’s no reason to list migrant workers or “two Japanese men” separately. They should be infections in a specific area, and that’s it. This division seeds even more xenophobia and hatred towards all types of foreigners. **** them. The government and media is to blame.

Thailand hasn’t a clue how to handle this. First time around was dumb luck, that’s obvious now. They won’t get so lucky this time.

According to the Samut Sakhon Facebook page, 455 migrant workers and 86 Thais are newly infected, raising accumulated cases in the province to 2,401 since the middle of December. 131 have, however, recovered. Add them to the tally MOPH Most data from anywhere doesn't indicate when the actual tests were taken. International daily figures are heavily averaged because of this. Large batches may be added upon completion of some screening program. There may also be delays between provincial and national reporting. Question: are Burmese workers added to MOPH national figures? Yes, they have been. Below is MOPH daily cases with three large peaks on Dec 20 to Dec 22. These are Burmese workers from the initial screening in Samut Shakon. The ups and downs in the last 6 days may also include smaller batches. Edited January 3, 2021 by rabas
