You didn’t factor all the money you will rake in renting out the girls with bar fines. 10 girls X 300 a pop x 4 times per day= 12,000 per day =360,000 per month or about 4 million per year. And that’s not even including lady drinks, basically water shots with a splash of cheap tequila with salt and lime.
VBF
So on another thread I mistakenly fuelled the rumour of TQ's demise. Later, someone I believe to be close to the source, but who prefers to remain nameless, corrected me, and I updated my post. In this thread, it's not clear whether TQ is closed permanently or just because of the Covid situation. @VocalNeal and @Psimbo seem to differ somewhat...... Anyone got the definitive answer please? On On.......VBF Edited January 8, 2021 by VBF

They have digitally disrupted lady drinks and bar fines, and as the prettier girls become their own boss, freelancing off the apps, the bars will be left with only unattractive girls. It was happening pre covid.

Anyone got the definitive answer please? On On.......VBF It is closed for now due to the pandemic rules. My understanding is they already got a rent break during last years shut down so not sure if talk of getting another one during this shut down is factual. Over the years, the TQ has been whittled down to just the bar fronting the sidewalk with the previous motel and bits out the back all being pared off with each review of the lease. I think the TQ sits on a very small corner of a lump of land that is worth way, way more than the bar could ever make but also I think the sentimental value of the bar to certain members of the family that own it and the land it sits on may have have expired in the face of business reality. If it does re-open, it will be great but staying open and being run as a going concern by either the current renters or anyone that may follow is all a bit tenuous IMHO.

Anyone got the definitive answer please? No. In @VocalNeal 's favor, a friend of mine heard from one well-connected that TQ had received another break from the landlord and hasn't planned to close permanently. However, @Psimbo is quite convincing with his claim to have talked to Woody himself. And he was spot on in quashing that additional rumor that Woody has passed.???? I love this forum. Been a lot of the irrelevant hot air from our ace Economists and obligatory posturings from our most distinguished graduate of the Soi Buakhao School of Economics (SBSE) to hijack the thread with the usual brilliant financial analyses that had nothing to do with TQ. The SBSE Landlord Theory has now been debunked again. And actually, though the lesson seems to have been forgotten, SBSE teaches in accordance with Landlord Theory that land values are irrelevant and don't rise with further much more expensive developments nearby any particular plot.???? Now back in the real world, the TQ does, or did, occupy what's become some very pricey real estate. Yup. However, it's occupied that spot for quite a long time already. Despite speculation for YEARS about a sale and redevelopment, there's never been any great rush about it and the likelihood seems to have diminished for the medium term. In the meantime, the landlord has been quite reasonable and TQ has had a good relationship w/ the landlord. Far as I know, TQ management has never had any need seriously to consider relocating the TQ. Yet. A formal closing of the TQ w/ termination of the staff provides them with access to Social Security payment and relieves TQ of obligation, moral or otherwise, for any support that's become understandably difficult nowadays. That also doesn't preclude a re-opening someday, however. But @Psimbo mentions a couple of factors of note: the numbers and the ages of the principals. I think they're all around 70 and not looking terribly fit. Though TQ was breaking even post-COVID, running such an enterprise, as they have so successfully, does take quite a lot of will, effort, and energy behind the Scenes. So the question does arise whether the incremental rewards, after such a fabulous run over the decades, would be worth all the responsibility post-COVID--for a couple years, probably, day in, day out. So now, regretfully, I'll have to agree with the likelihood of a permanent shutdown but hope to hear otherwise at some point. If it does re-open, I should write a little orientation for our unwashed about how properly to understand and appreciate the legendary Tahitian Queen Rock 'n' Roll Bar. Sorry if it's too late for you ???? but daytime was playtime. Edited January 10, 2021 by BigStar 3

A Gogo bar that has made big profits from tourists for the past 50 years, get discounted rents for the biggest part of the 10 months the pandemic has caused issues, asking for donations? Pathetic. 2

Pathetic. Obviously donating is optional but I totally agree, whilst I don't want to see bars closed for the regular employees that will suffer, a certain genre of bar where the prostitution of others is a significant part of a previously successful and lucrative business model sits pretty low on my sympathy radar. There is also a compounding factor. On day 1 of a 30 month, say there is only 6 guys in the bar drinking 2 beers per hour for the first 4 hours of trading. For the second 4 hours of trading, you need 18 guys in the bar, drinking 2 beers per hour, for the last 4 hours, in order to keep up with your figures. However, the bar only sits 12. So, for every hour, of every day, of every, week, for the month, you don't have 12 guys in in the bar, for 8 hours, drinking 2 beers per hour, you are losing, because in order to meet sales targets towards the end of the month, you may need 100 guys in the bar, for 8 hours, drinking 2 beers per hour, but that's not going to happen when your establishment can only sit 12 customers. Then, out of what is made at the end of the month, after all other expenses have been deducted, the purchase price of the bar, plus key money, for the duration of the lease, has to be accounted for in each month's profit, if there is a profit. Many of these bars are just expensive hobbies. no point in tying to work out how to make a profit, unless you own the property and dont pay rent thats the only way you will make any sort of living out from running a bar
