The police chief in Trang in the south of Thailand has admitted that a mistake was made after officers from the Huay Yot district shot at the wrong fleeing car.

They mistook a Nissan Almera for a Nissan Juke.

They shot an entirely innocent female clerk in the leg. Fortunately she is recovering in hospital.

Trouble had flared in neighboring Krabi province in Klong Tom district during a domestic dispute in which a man held his wife at a house.

Police and a phu yai ban were injured in a shootout and the husband took off with the wife in a white Nissan Juke.

Officers in Trang thought they had found the right car and shot at it. It turned out to be a Nissan Almera and fishing business clerk Neungruthai, 29, was hit in the left thigh. Her husband, the driver, and relatives in the back were uninjured.

The husband has promised legal action.

Krabi provincial police chief Pol Maj-Gen Santhat Winson admitted a mistake had been made and promised justice for all putting the local police chief in charge of an investigative committee. He said 10 officers were involved in the error.

He said he had visited the victim in hospital. The bullet had been extracted from her leg and she was recovering. Luckily it didn't hit a main artery.

Yeah, the Juke is probably one of the ugliest and most recognisable shapes around!

Mind you, I have just seen a Farang at Big C take his trolley to a white Honda Jazz, press the remote door lock and try to get in.  After several seconds he realised that the 'beep-beep' noise was coming from his white Toyota Yaris parked 3 spaces away.

Thats why it is called the Joke

The *least* that General Santhat could have done is to put a *non*-local Police Chief in charge of the Investigative Committee.

I can understand anyone wanting to shoot up a Juke, its common sense as anyone with that sort of taste should be shot for the good of humanity, they just need to improve their aim, although you could say they are getting closer, as it was at least another hideous Nissan ????

Yes and rightly so, bloody ridiculous shooting at a car, not even knowing it was the correct car.

What can you expect though from the pathetic plods?

"He said 10 officers were involved in the error. "  - that was quite a hail of bullets - lucky only one injury...   such marksmanship.

Well the police are going to have a big bill on their hands once she's finished with them in the courts.

Look out residents of Trang - They're going to be relentlessly issuing no helmet fines, no seatbelt fines, alcohol checkpoints, waiting outside of each gambling den and any bar open past the shut out time to collect their cut on a daily basis. Daddy's got a bill to pay, and it ain't coming from his pocket...

WOW, tough on domestic violence, doesn’t seem there was any attempt to let the suspect surrender. If they would have no doubt they would have realized they had the wrong vehicle.
