You are right, they are mad! I tried buying a box of Heineken 0% one day at tesco, cashier outright refused to scan it. So I wheeled my cart over to the plastic furnature section, pulled out a chair and side table, then opened the box and started enjoying one right there in the middle of the isle.

Soon after the manager showed up, and asked me to leave. I refused and said call the police if you like, I have the money to pay and the right to drink them because they are alcohol free. After explaining my case in great detail while sitting there consuming my beverage, he eventually agreed, escorted me and ordered the cashier to ring it up to get rid of the pesky foreigner that was exibiting far too much common sense.

Sometimes you just have to be a hard ass to get your point accross, in hind sight if he had called the police it probably would have been more trouble than it was worth, but practicality and common sense prevailed that day!

Drinking a beverage you did not own is considered theft in many societies.

I've often had to become insistent that it was legal to purchase a/f beer before 11am at Big C but always triumphed in the past, today they were adamant... no beer of any kind prior to 11am.

The offending grog was Heineken 0-0.

7/11 actually keep it with the soft drinks but Lotus like to consider it alcoholic.

Tops had it stacked up near the checkouts during the Covid alcohol ban last year.

Any similar experiences out there?

I have had problems buying schh......... you know whos' tonic water "out of hours". Seems it's considered alcohol 'cos it goes with gin.....!

One time in Perth years ago I took some sailors from a Thai ship that docked at Fremantle for a drive around, we stopped at a supermarket so they could get some things, and they bought several cans of ginger beer. I didn't think anything of it but after they had drunk a couple cans each they said although they enjoyed the ginger flavor it was very weak beer and they couldn't feel any effect from it. So I had a good laugh and took them to a bottle shop.

I've bought Heineken 0% between 2pm-5pm in Tesco Lotus and it's usually accepted after staff initially refusing, not sure on before 11am though, surely the same?

With regards to calories, I got this info from another thread, I assume Singha Blue My Beer is a rebrand of Singha light so similar calories

330ml small beer bottle or can

  • 97 calories – Singha Light Beer
  • 130 calories – Singha Beer
  • 150 calories – Chang Beer
  • 165 calories – Leo Beer

I use these figures on MyFitnessPal, for 5 large bottles (620ml)

  • 912 calories – Singha My Beer
  • 1222 calories – Singha Beer
  • 1410 calories – Chang Beer
  • 1551 calories – Leo Beer

So i've switched from Leo to Singha/My Beer now, waiting to see the results
