Surrounded by a shrinking circle of aides, a brooding Trump lays into Pence

It is an astonishing thing, to witness a man who was already psychologically unstable, completely come unhinged. He is rambling and incoherent in his speech now, utterly desperate, and increasingly dangerous. There should be some national security laws in place, that allow Trump to be locked up in jail, until the 20th. He is a dangerous man, and a threat to the nation.

And as far as charging his rioters with sedition, I have no issue with that. But, only a small percentage of the ones who broke into the capital building were arrested.

Compared to Portland, where protestors who came close to government buildings were treated quite harshly, this reeks of favoritism toward the white Trump crowd. How can the capital building, with congress in session, not be considered a far greater security threat, than a nearly empty government building in Portland? Something smells fishy here.

No doubt the capital police failed miserably. But, was it a deliberate failure? And if so, should they be charged with a crime?

Trump got the second highest vote ever even though he lost. He got more votes after being in power for four years.
Why is he so popular with so many Americans?

You may be surprised to know they are politicians, unsurprisingly though this is a common trait for all politicians. Rats and sinking ships.....

Understood.  But we've never experienced something like this.  Never.  Completely different from past administrations.  Policies need to be put in place to prevent this from happening again.

Pre-recorded video, just released by trump on twitter....

part hostage tape, with a whole load of lies. And it looks like the Secretary of Make-up has resigned.

Thanks for this. The poached egg cooking video afterwards was a beauty.

I see that addressing their core audience, Fox has already spun Wednesday's riot/insurrection/trouble along the lines of:  this was all some kind of set up to allow Them to come after your guns and restrict your civil rights even further.  Be prepared to defend your liberty.

Goebbels was quoted as the following:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

“Propaganda is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. If the means achieves the end then the means is good... the new Ministry has no other aim than to unite the nation behind the ideal of the national revolution.”

Not sure if that is the reason.

The nazis controlled the press, Trump didn’t. His lies have been fact checked and widely reported on.

And the USA is a democracy. Trump won more votes the last election than in 2016.

why is that so?

Because "he tells it like it is" (lying).

Because he's a businessman and not a politician (a failed businessman).

Because he'll drain the swamp (he stuffed his administration and allied himself to the swamp creatures).

Because money for education has been slashed (not taught to think critically).

I'm sure there are many other reasons, too.

I know it's masochistic, but I am missing the attempts at justification by the White House press secretary.

She is busy frantically trying to undo what can't be undone and and making statements written by trump's lawyers desperately preparing for the upcoming sedition trial:

It almost sounds believable until we remember who this statement is trying to protect:bah:

Remarks by Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany

Can’t claim popular if he lost twice.

Perhaps you're not aware of the right-wing echo chamber that exists in America.  Yes, we have a free press.  But Trump was successful (at least to his supporters) in denigrating the mainstream press to the point of removing their credibility to a large segment of America.  I know real life Trump supporters in Thailand who only believe what they read in the right wing press.  And of course, there's that Trump twitter feed which is where many Americans get their news (hard to believe, but true).  The right wing press was also able to convince/scare some Americans into believing that the Dems were socialists who wanted to defund the police.  Again, it's complicated, but Trump was able to get voter turnout to record numbers--both for and against him.  At the end of the day, Americans did the right thing and Trump is out.  God bless America!

No surprise as trump was a disciple of Bannon for years. Stephen Miller (extreme right wing white nationalist)  is still trump's senior advisor and speech writer who is now ensconced with trump at the WH with Giuliano and a few other trump sycophants. trump is the manifestation of radical right ideology based upon Paleo Conservatism supported by Stephen Miller. Whether trump recognised and understood the ideological forces driving him I believe is an open question.

We should all be grateful to Trump for clearly revealing something that we all suspected; that 4o% of Americans are brain dead, radicals with zero education or experience of the rest of the world.
