Come to Pattaya and see a ghost town up close and personal.  It's really depressing.

Agreed..Chaam looks like a madmax movie on the water.  Did have a great meal beachside across from the Tesco, the other evening.  Wouldn't cost them much to clear out the dogs, that would be a good starting point.

I recently bought a used truck with the idea of traveling around Thailand (since I can't easily leave the country and return). Then the recent outbreak hit. Can you say 'irony?'
Anyhow, I'd planned to go to Mae Ram Phueng Beach, on the west side of Rayong. I just found a Rayong group on Facebook. One guy there said he recently drove to that beach and back (I think from north of BKK), but said he got "a letter from the pu yai" before going. (Pu yai is 'village headman,' if you don't know.) He said if you don't live in a village, then you have to get a letter from your provincial office. I live in (the province of) BKK, but have no idea where the provincial office is. He said he was not stopped either going or returning, but if he was, he'd have to show the letter.
This is the first I've heard of this "letter." Anyone know what it means? What's required to get one? Show you've passed a covid test, etc.?? Thx

rayong is still in the red zone, so restrictions. Is not as bad as in chonburi and they said they would be easing.

rayong beach is clean, wide and shaded by large pine trees. I was there when casino scandal was unfolding.

as I have read there are no any road blocks.

at this stage try the west coast - from the chao samran beach in ratchaburi, to cha am and hua hin in prachuap. They never been in red zone, they have already lifted restrictions, just bars still closed. Beaches here are not that attractive, because of land erosion, dirty water and sand from the mangrove forests. But good enough for a short, few days trip. Just came back from there. No any road blocks, but good to have some back up from thai co-traveller (I had wife) or have some excuse for travel (family, health matter - can be arranged beforehand with a hotel menager, who would testify over the phone to police).

further down south would be cleaner, and cheaper, but still prime location, albeit basic accommodation, are below 500b. You can ask for multiple day stay and mid week price. Later they will offer you the same price for weekends.
