fdsa
Bitkub uses cheap virtual servers from Amazon instead of powerful dedicated servers, so it may be really a shortage of resources for heavily increased traffic.

TopDeadSenter
Someone recently asked why I invested in crypto via listed miners and Grayscale trusts. This is why! The BX exchange gave all customers a reasonable amount of time to take their assets off the exchange, it was tough if you didn't have a wallet. the shutdown wasn't sudden but it was unexpected. It is an assumption based on my experience in web hosting and development of web based services. AWS dedicated servers are so severily overpriced that Bitkub management would never allow their developers to order them, so with the high probability Bitkub is hosted on a dozen of virtual servers rather than on a dozen of dedicated servers. MadMac
Amazon is not cheap or unreliable by any means. If they are hosted there, still say they are under maintenance, it only means one thing. They got hacked.

ukrules
8 minutes ago, MadMac said: Yes, and that can be hacked. Can't blame Amazon for your own failure. You're obsessed with this aren't you. Did you ever use MtGox during the years it was running? I did and I can tell you they had all sorts of problems, mostly DDOS related which led to outages and order execution lag which could last 30 to 60 minutes from pressing the sell or buy button, there were hacks as well of course but that was unrelated to their earlier issues. What makes you think they're running on AWS? The requests go through CloudFlare which means they could be hosted anywhere on any kind of hardware. This forum runs through AWS, you can tell by the fact that requests go through 'CloudFront' which is AWS instead of CloudFlare which Bitkub uses. 1

Interesting, I'm pretty sure it used to be on AWS (the forum), in fact we were getting Amazon cloudfront errors on this forum just a couple of weeks ago but when this site stopped working for me today (literally just about 10 minutes ago) I got a different type of error. Maybe it's moved recently. They've made a mistake allowing their real IPs to be disclosed in any way - this makes them a target for all sorts of attacks and extortion. Professional DDOS prevention whilst actively under attack is not cheap.

cadcat
Bitkub mobile app came online 14:30. Installed the app on my android and logged in (Website still under maintenance) Went on my wallet and transfered most BTC and ETH into cold storage. No problem, both transfers confirmed within minutes. So far so good. No loss at all, but a very bad feeling about the way they treat us customers. Hope the info helps

ukrules
In other unrelated news 'upbit' launched in Thailand on Tuesday. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the other exchange was ordered offline just days before the launch.
Heng
Been doing this for awhile and am not anti Bitkub.... but seriously, this is exactly what a 'warning sign' looks like (service outages and unclear reasons for such outages). BTC-e, Flexcoin, Intersango.... Cold storage is your friend. And if the term cold storage confuses you.... let's say that storing your money OFF EXCHANGE is your friend. Only keep what you want to trade in your exchange accounts.

Coinbase is good too but don't expect it to perform very well during large pumps or dumps. Honestly I can't trust any others at this point.
