webfact
Private hospitals can import Covid vaccine: Thai FDA By The Nation FILE PHOTO The government will not block private hospitals from importing Covid-19 vaccines, said the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday. However, the vaccines must be approved and registered with the FDA, said its secretary-general Dr Paisan Dankhum. The FDA chief confirmed that AstraZeneca (Thailand) and Sinovac Biotech have submitted approval applications with the FDA for their vaccines, which are being purchased by the government. Manufacturers or importers of other vaccines that have already been registered by foreign food and drug agencies could also apply for approval, said Paisan. The state does not have a monopoly on Covid-19 vaccines and would not block their import, he added. Private hospitals could purchase a vaccine that is registered with the FDA or, as licensees, register the vaccine themselves. “People can be confident that vaccines registered by the FDA are safe, high-quality, effective, and can prevent disease. In order to protect consumers, the FDA is preparing to tightly monitor vaccines for safety,” he said. To register vaccines with the FDA, Thai licence holders are required to present safety information, plans for use, and contingencies in case of side effects. The FDA’s safety assessment will consider results from the vaccine study, including dosage size and vaccination period, plus quality control in the production process. Paisan said the FDA would not be responsible for the price of vaccines offered by private companies. Popular Post bkk6060
Geez, all the negativity. If followed thru I understand, it is very good news. And, the fact they can choose other approved vaccines. From my experience dealing with them, I would trust Bumrungrad or Bangkok Hospital to do things correctly. At least it is an option for those that the cost is of no real concern and want a proper vaccine and possible protection for their life. Hope this is available soon. 10 7
Popular Post rupert the bear
this opens the book on another load of questions, how do these private hospitals access the vaccs when govt cannot presently,i would have thought theyd confiscate it and use on the health workers not sanction it?why would the govt allow the rich to circumvent the process of govt vaccs.what of the costs and acceptance by authorities of such a process.?what if someone has an adverse reaction, whos responsible?its another mad corruption fuelled dash to the pay out, private hospitals -wow no moral compass what so ever.par for the course unfortunately.i find it hard to believe that this can pass muster when every other country so far says and acts as vaccination is a public right and the rich cant queue jump.we are living in a moral vaccuum if its allowed to pass, who do they source the vaccs from?pfizer astra are in full knowledge of this?i see the chinese are selling their vacc on open mkts but what do you expect from the buffet crew who gave us the virus, typical!theirs is 2nd rate anyway so i think if your gonna pay you will get a good one.this shows in the full light of day how corrupt the system is. 3

Good news, but the first comments imagine it will be fake, it will be too expensive, problems in Brazil, it will be available on footpaths, the Thai middleman will cheat etc etc. All imagined. Nothing based on any facts. Only in their heads. Strange people. The hospital that the government banned from selling the vaccine was going to sell the moderna vaccine. Obviously they could get it, and fast. The charge of "knee jerk paranoia" is certainly one which can be levelled; but for anyone familiar ,with the venality and corruption of many in the "systems" which will control such distributions, such expectations make sense. Rolling out this vaccination programme, through both public and private health systems will be a major test of the integrity of the Thai health and governmental services. There are "vulnerable areas"! Edited January 13, 2021 by herfiehandbag 2

Anyone who's ever tried to import or sell food items here knows how strict the Thai FDA is. They are very good and take great care for what's available here. Problems can arise. Just look at the mess in the UK and the US. Congrats to Thailand so far. I'd much rather be here than just about any other place in the world. Other than perhaps New Zealand! ExpatOilWorker
You could get the first iPhone at MBK just days after its first release in the US. You can probably get the vaccine in a back alley in Pat Pong in a couple of weeks.

ChrisY1
I can see the entire vaccination program going sideways very quickly. Allowing private hospitals to import, allowing local administrations to conduct their own programs and, of course, anything else Anutin does to make life easier for him, will end up running out of control with poor management. The program needs to be managed professionally.....the distribution similar. With this plan they're talking about, IMO, chaos will result.
