A guy comes round sometimes to collect cardboard boxes (beer), plastic bottles and glass bottles, but will not take coffee jars or jam jars or small glass jars. For what reason, I know not. I started composting, but got told by the villager head man it was unhygenic. Go figure. So I stopped. I bought a burn bin, sister in law comp!aimed as it was too near her kitchen window. But she burns <deleted> on the ground outside our back windows. Everywhere here, rice stubble is burned, garden waste is burned, corn detritus is burned. Burning stuff goes on at the verge of the main road. How do we dispose of broken crockery, and other stuff like that? All you who spout holier than thou comments really don't have a clue what goes on in the countryside of a really backwards nation. Come have a look one day and open your eyes. And yes, it really hacks me off to see all this burning and fly tipping going on, but when in Rome, as someone once said.... Set up on 4 bricks which provides air draft and clean out. A burn bin works very well and causes very little smoke when used right, better than setting fire to a pile of garbage, leaf litter or whatever and just walking away to let it smolder for hours as the locals do. We recycle whatever we can in my home and that goes for most house holds around us and we have 10 baht a month garbage collection but our bin is rarely full. Thank you all for answers, and I knew it would engage some interest from those who hate the daily doses of smone. Been there and done that especially after living in soi 88 and 94 Hua Hin. Hate BKK! But as said upfront and in a few replies, it is not working the way we like, and sometimes you just have to make a <deleted> in to the wind. I (my gf) already give away everything somebody elses are willing to take, and the rest of it, I will do alot better work to minimize the footprint. This assumes you have a truck to haul. A car is asking fur grief. Not optimum but do-able. It was probably a mistake to even make your post because nobody here will have a good solution. My question was simple, and someone who is quite frankly ignorant manage to make a whole thread of what we should not do, and the earnest most of us who live here in Thailand, could have done a better job making the planet greener back home. Just by living here, you contribute to alot more pollution than necessery. Ignorant to claim what everyone is doing around the country is wrong, when the politicians do nothing to make it better, and help companies to start making profit of waste, start making energy of cleaner buring facilities and etc. It is horrible, but as said, one evil is no better than another evil. I know what they do with my waste I deliver and pay for they burn it since it is easier to do than burry it. And as we know, landfills is no better than buring it.
