the thai definition of 'action' ; 'talking of action'

Have I remembered this correctly regarding the first Thais with covid who crossed back to Thailand illegally:

Didn't our glorious leader put the prosecution of them on hold?

He has warned that while Thai nationals, who illegally cross the border to work in casinos in neighboring countries, are welcomed to return and receive treatment in case they contract COVID-19, they will also be subject to prosecutions according to the Immigration Act.

Surely an amnesty would produce far better results?

Not all of them. There will be some that crossed and now want to return and may be prepared to accept quarantine but are scared of prosecution.  If they've lost their income because of the Covid situation they will be forced to return. Surely its better that they return legally than risk them crossing illegally with the potential of passing the virus on?

In some areas crossing the border without paperwork is (was) quite normal and widely known about by the authorities - although they would probably deny it now.  In my ex-wife's village it was an almost daily occurence.

While those who assist at the highest levels remain immune from prosecution.

Only the illegals & drivers are caught... amazing Thailand.
