A few of my pals that didn't have kids only lost 50% of the house, but their wives got to live in the house and drag their heels on the sale for up to five years, none of their women contributed a dime to the house purchase. The only home ownership protection for a man in the west is not having a woman live in it with you. If you must co-habit, best to rent, or live with your parents, they can't give your partner your landlords or your parents house.
