BANGKOK (NNT) - Pakistan has commended Thailand on its handling of COVID-19 and preparations for once the outbreak subsides.

Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan HE Asim Iftikhar Ahmad met today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Chanvirakul to discuss the COVID-19 situation, applauding Thailand for effective management of the disease, in particular for progressing development of a vaccine. The diplomat underlined Thailand and Pakistan are cooperating against the disease and noted his country’s interest in promoting Bhuddist tourism along with the Eastern Economic Corridor, where it will consider trade promotion measures once COVID-19 subsides.

DPM Anutin affirmed priority has been given to controlling the outbreak and developing a vaccine, noting cooperation between countries is needed to increase resources. On tourism, he remarked that it would be beneficial if Pakistan were to provide Visa On Arrival to Thai toursists when the situation improves in the future.

When Covid hit we were in The US and getting ready to return to Thailand, we changed our plans and decided to stay a little longer to see  how things played out , thinking that is the excrement  hit the proverbial atmospheric gasses accelerator we would be safer in the US and more specifically in Florida. LOL

Big Mistake!!

Though many of us are frustrated with the travel restrictions imposed by Thailand, me included, we all have to admit that Thailand is doing a great job of controlling the pandemic, as opposed to many western countries with greater resources.  Let's give credit where credit is due.

I agree with you fully.

But the anti-Thais on this forum will never admit such a thing, they simply don’t have it in them despite thescore on the board.

USA 400,000+

UK.     90,000+

Thailand 70

A bit like you played a round of golf and shot 70 and others in your group shot 90,000 and 400,000 and then endlessly complained about your game and gave you endless advice and criticisms.

How stupid would they look?

Completely stupid.

If you didn't keep score, how would you know how many you went round in though?

Western countries do not have greater resources to deal with this stuff.

Thailand has hundreds of thousands of very low-paid Police, Army and other uniformed officials that can be utilised. The West does not have that luxury.

In addition, having a large conscript army and not a professional one, led by an authoritarian regime, puts Thailand at a distinct advantage over the West, in that they can use their troops in whichever manner they decide without approvals from things like due process, governance, oversight and all those irritations that come from having an armed forces answerable to the general public, instead of the other way round.

And here I thought it was Thailand's hospitals, doctors, nurses, countless medical assistants, health and national doctor organizations, universities, researchers, research institutes, particularity those for genetics and infectious disease research,  and, a calm and reasonable population with enough common sense to wear masks, wash hands, and take reasonable precautions.

And the tiny elephant in the room, Asia was initially hit with a much slower spreading strain than the West.

Thankfully, the hospitals, doctors and nurses haven't been really tested yet, other than localised outbreaks, the worst being in Samut Sakhon so far.
