PM: Thailand Won’t Be Vaccine Guinea Pig

BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that he would not let Thai people be a guinea pig for any COVID-19 vaccine that had not been completely tested for safety.

The prime minister posted his message on his Facebook page, writing that he was aware of reports on the adverse impacts of some COVID-19 vaccines in some countries and the government was waiting for investigations into the real causes.

The government would see if such impacts really resulted from a vaccine or from other factors such as chronic diseases, ages and health conditions.

If they ever want to make their own vaccine (ever) then there will indeed need to be 'Guinea Pigs' - but I think we all know that's not going to happen.

Well, considering that most of the infections in Thailand are Burmese migrant workers, if am sure they will be volunteering.

Whether they like it or not.

That being said it is a good result for me personally that other countries are rushing out their vaccines and it will be tested on millions of guinea people before I take mine. We are sitting in the box seat in Thailand.

The situation is relatively under control in Thailand, so no need to rush it. Australia, in a similar situation, is playing a similar wait and see game.

With only 70 deaths in Thailand for the whole year, the situation isn’t urgent, it makes sense to wait and see which is the safest and most effective. The hospitals and morgues are not overflowing like in other places.

The first batch on the way is for health workers. Makes sense to vaccine them quickly. The others can wait a bit.

Clever strategy.

Reminds me of that old saying “No flies on the Thais”

...while already having ordered millions of doses of a largely untested Chinese-made vaccine whose side effects and efficacy are in question. Go figure. This man truly is a fountain of ineptitude and incompetence.

More empty words. He will do anything to look good and to get people to believe he knows what he is doing ! Thai people will be guinea pigs just like all the other people that got the jab so far.

That's true, but your comment could apply to any politican in any country in the world. Have you ever heard one admit to being incompetent?

First people that should take it is the prime minister followed closely by the government. It’ll be the only way that these people will leave their positions and leave a way for Thailand being able to vote for a new pm!!
