Popular Post Walker88
1 hour ago, GrandPapillon said: quite possible, a lot of people in the fly-over states are being ignored and poorer since 2008, and Obama left them in the dust with the silly over-priced big pharma sponsored Obamacare Trump was Obama legacy, the "deplorables", yet their numbers are growing, even more so with COVID Ignoring their presence and the 70+ millions Trump voters should give you a clue about the political reality in the US, a Biden win is not some magic vaxx against Trump voters, like COVID, they are staying around and not going anywhere ???? The ACA (Obamacare) gave health insurance to 28 million people who previously had no insurance. What happened to flyover country is technology and the obviation of low-skilled human labor. The bogey-man called 'globalization' did not steal jobs from the US; it merely sent them to a way station with the next stop oblivion. More and more technology is making human labor unnecessary, and it is only going to get worse as tech chomps up the food chain and makes even some skilled workers (e.g., computer programmers) redundant. Labor losing pricing power hit flyover country first, and it took a snake oil salesman like 45 to exploit the fears and uncertainty of those losing out by telling them the kind of sweet lies they wanted to hear. The same fears and need for personal meaning is what led so many to embrace the farcical claims of Q. In fact Q gave the forlorn two things: someone to blame for their own ills, and a cause celebre to allow folks to feel better about themselves. Q believers became 'on a mission'. President Biden cannot stop the relentless and inevitable trend. The problems facing unskilled labor are almost intractable. Candidate Andrew Yang was as well versed on this trend as anyone, and his solution was simply to pay people for existing. Maybe that's the next stop gap solution, as societies have already run through the other supposed solutions (in the US it was manufacturing a 3rd household income source, called home equity...that worked until it blew up in 2008, a disaster Bush II handed over to President Obama). There is no traditional solution. Leaders are going to have to find a way 'manufacture' personal value for people who otherwise have nothing of monetary value to add to society. The only historical event that is remotely analogous is when serfdom created a way for unnecessary people to survive. Labor in those ages had no pricing power. That was solved by a few bouts of plague that made labor rare. Lords and masters had to begin to pay.

Popular Post Lacessit
I did predict Trump would not be pardoning any of the Capitol insurrectionists, he just used them, then discarded them like he does with everyone else. The problem with these Qanon, Proud Boys etc. etc. is education, or the lack thereof. Given that Republicans resisted aiding the poor and unemployed during the covid epidemic, but did exploit the situation to give huge tax breaks to the rich, it wouldn't be surprising that the number of poor is growing. 3

Not just in the US. In my teens, I was briefly (well, not that briefly—over eight months) enticed into Jehova’s Witnesses. There were people from all walks of life and all income levels. The member whose home we met at was a multi millionaire. My best friend at the time (and today still my best friend) often tried to pull me out. I once mentioned to the minister under whom I studied the bible about this and his response was for me to ditch my friend. At that moment, something snapped into place in my head. My friend never threatened to abandon me if I didn’t ditch the church. But this guy, this minister of peace, his first suggestion was for me to ditch my friend. I walked out of there and never looked back. Hopefully for some—dare I hope, many?—of these Q guys a sharp jab of awakening can lift the fog long enough for some sanity, some clear thinking, to prevail. Among some I know, it has happened over the last week. There is hope. 1
