daviddunham
January 17-20... i have seen several people on IG (Instagram) flying commercially to Phuket from Bangkok. They all are enjoying the beach, going to cafes / restaurants, malls. Is the quarantine just the official thing ...and inofficially noone actually checks / cares on arrival (just like checking into thaichana at many bkk locations)? lemonwaterjoe
Can confirm 2 friends yesterday drove from Pattaya to BKK airport and traveled to Phuket by plane without any issues. But today the news came out anyway that the Phuket governor has lifted the quarantine for arrivals from (inter alia) Bangkok so things should be safe. We can expect similar "news" from other provinces within the next few days thanks to the low numbers of new infections.
indyman
Phuket provincial communicable disease committee has agreed to lift the mandatory 14-day quarantine period for people arriving from Bangkok and Samut Prakan to help boost the local economy hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, Phuket businesses met provincial authorities and proposed an end to the mandatory quarantine period for people travelling from certain high-risk areas in hope of stimulating the tourism industry as Chinese New Year is approaching. However, president of the Phuket travel industry council, said strict disease control measures remain necessary to protect local people and tourists from contracting the virus. Meanwhile, Dr Thanit Sermkaew, chief of the provincial public health office, said that all visitors must register on www.gophuget.com ahead of their visits. They will also required to use the Mor Chana contact tracing application wherever they go. Source: NNT news
