50,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to arrive in first week of Feb: Anutin

So thai government made yet another blunder.

it was wise to order asap 200k from abroad, that is for health workers.
equally good was ordering 2mln of sinovac, albeit more expensive, but ready to be shipped. It's 650b per shot, on comparison to 230b for astrazeneca.
I do suspect that thailand is not ready to make a large quantity of astrazeneca. Lack of expertise. It was ambitious, and profitable, to try and make it locally, but India can make it faster, better and cheaper.
Hence there is health clearance for imported Astrazeneca, but not yet for the one made locally.

Looks like there's trouble at mill with AZ vaccine and Thailand. AZ reconsidering its partnership with the government according to this article.

Well isn't that awkward.

Thailand has a lot to lose here. They lose not only the vaccine production and revenue, they also lose the technology transfer - the equipment, training, and experience of mass producing a vaccine. They have opportunity to steal business from India in the future. I hope that this will go through, although I think human rights concerns are important.

May be political/ human rights.  Or AZ may have learned from Rolls Royce.

AZ like Pfizer has trouble delivering the promised doses, so maybe AZ rethinks their strategy and moves some production to a country where it's more reliable?

It's a big loss for Thailand if they lose that option as you said.

It is being made in several large factories all over the world.   More than Pfizer.  So I think they have done more than anyone else on that front.

But its a lie, vax cost $7.7, not $5.

It would only be a lie against definitive proof. Why haven't you posted the reference to back up that claim?

Do not refer to the budget, that is anticipated cost based on the variables, rather than an actual cost determined by agreement.

One has to assume that you have never heard the expressions, 'economy of scale' and 'distribution cost'.

It is a foregone conclusion that this forum would blame the Thai government. The real issue is not the rights or wrongs of the Thai action, but the global perception of the UK government if they allow AZ to use politics as a pawn in the midst of a global crisis.

The UK reputation is already in tatters with backtracking on agreement, this would do them no good whatsoever.

Devide 6bln for purchase of 26mln doses.
This price is without storage, distribution, administering and rest of logistic costs. That would be covered within health system. That is exactly what budged was aproved.

the correcr prise of a dose in the EU is e1.78 which is around $2. A huge difference, which can be only explained by corruption.

thailand was going to make 200mln doses per year,  so similar to what the EU has ordered (they have ordered many different ones).

yes, everybody is going to blame thai government for waisting money, delaying purchase and now trying to shut up corruption scandal by throwing 11 lese majeste and article 116 computer act charges against thanathorn.

no respectable international company will deal with such government, because if at some point the government brakes part of agreement, astrazeneca representatives can also be prosecuted by same laws. Its too serious for them to lose any presence in thailand, as they already sell many medicines in this market.

now thailand migh be lucky to get 200k doses, because they are also part of 26mln contract.

The rest, as well as another 36mln doses, are in limbo.

you should not include the UK into this discussion. Their government hasnt got anything to do with thai blunder. The AZ refused to hold joint conference with thai health ministry. British embassador was not involved. But probably he should speak up about it publicly. He was a deal braker between AZ and thai government. So now he is also implicated
