Having just nearly had the front of my car removed by a T**S*R cutting across from the outside lane to make a left turn it made me realise that, although not every Ford Ranger I have seen on the road is driven by an utter ****** the vast, vast majority of them certainly seem to be. I am sure there are some Ranger drivers who are perfectly decent, safe drivers. It's just I have only ever seen a handful being driven in a sensible way. Many drive like it as there is no formal driver training here and people mostly do what the hell they like. They must have opened it up to Ranger drivers !!!! ----------------------------- Realistically, I think it’s just confirmation bias... Larger vehicles are simply more noticeable, they are also more imposing. So when a larger vehicle cuts you off or doesn’t give way we see it as more aggressive driving. When an a$$hat in a Ranger cuts us of we think ‘all Ranger drivers are <deleted>’... Then the next Ranger we see is being driven perfectly well but it doesn’t register... We then see another Ranger being driven aggressively and again think, all Ranger drivers must be tools.... The same happens with Girls on their phones in a car thats been ‘cutesied-up’ (think hello kitty). Get cut off by one of these drivers then we suddenly notice all these Toyota Yaris’ being driven by dumb-girls. Think the old guy in the 10 year old Toyota Camry is a pain in the neck holding up traffic, now that you’ve read this you’ll see him everywhere ! Entitled BMW & Merc drivers anyone?? If it was a boring grey Honda civic being driven the same way it would hardly register. What about the beaten up 20 year old pickup driving at 40kmh in the right most lane 2km before a U-Turn. Refrigerated delivery trucks driven by lunatics, you’ll see those everywhere now too !!! The point I want to make is that in a country where most people drive well, yet there are still large numbers of people driving dangerously we tend to start to pigeonhole the behaviour and try and categorise it... As far as driving in small sois, if you're not a proficient driver perhaps its better you drive a small car but as for myself driving a larger pickup poses no problem driving anywhere. But Ranger drivers are somehow idiots, and what's up with the stupid paintjobs. The other day I thought I was being passed up by a Holstein cow. For me in Thailand it mainly seems to me to be Fortuna driver. In UK most bikers found Volvo driver were a problem. In Qatar any Arab in a large American car was a problem. I do think that some cars are more abused then others but it is also personal bias. I mean i wont remember if a honda accord cuts me off but i do if a black fortuner does the same. As i pay attention to those. Just something i noticed but i might actually be wrong and have a bias. So who knows. I never owned an automatic until I came to Thailand. If you take your driving test in the UK in a manual car you can drive a manual or auto, if you take your test in an automatic, you can only drive an automatic. I must admit that I have myself had several vehicles on which pieces have been held on with pop rivets, the best was a Renault 5 (didn't half go) which had the entire bottom panel of the drivers door replaced with a sheet of steel cut from an old washing machine, held on with pop rivets!
