How one partygoer became Thailand’s first ‘super-spreader’

Thailand looks poised to confirm its first official “super spreader” as fears grow over the scale of the latest cluster infection

 

The hashtag #DJ Matoom is top-trending on Twitter after the recent celebrity birthday party of Techin “DJ Matoom” Ploypetch on the rooftop of a five-star Bangkok hotel became “super-spreader event”.

 

One party-goer broke his 14-day self-isolation period and spread COVID-19 to other revellers. So far, the party has spawned at least 19 other new COVID-19 cases.

 

“Transmissions in Bangkok should be highlighted. They show the possibility of a person becoming a super-spreader,” said Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesperson Dr Apisamai Srirangsan during the daily briefing on Monday.

If this is so then why hasn't Bangkok been locked down and active testing been done instead of just trying to track and trace.  Maybe I am once again just not getting the reasons that this Government is slow on the uptick....confused would be the operative word.  Why is it okay for them to be slow in announcing certain news that could protect people, but quick to slam migrants, is there a fear of defamation charges.  If so then that is just pure silliness and this country needs to move forward.  Name and shame is appropriate so everyone is aware they may have come in contact instead of waiting now 16 days.....

Believe it is because the DJ posted it himself, but they must be afraid of the defamation law here in Thailand as it might get them sued.  So much for the safety of people...

Bangkok needs to mass test like Samut Sakhon. SS now doing 10,000 tests a day. Over 900 found in one day although mostly foriegn workers. Still over 100 Thais in a day is significant. Wonder what the numbers in BKK would show with mass testing.

Ssshhh, don't rock the boat, we wouldn't want the anti testers to jump in and hijack the Thread and compare it elsewhere.  Yes, they should and need too test, but will they is the big question.  If they do I would venture to guess that many field hospitals would need to be set up as even Asymptomatic positives get sequestered.

Its long since been endemic to thailand imo. I cant see how its possible that they had millions of chinese tourists until late march, and covid not be widespread. Thais seems to be largely resistant to the worst effects of the virus somehow.

From what I have read on TV I thought that the virus didn't spread Thai > Thai.

But only spread by famous people or those inside casinos or pubs. It doesn't seem to spread among the general public. Magic.
