A Facebook post from surgeons at Bung Kan hospital in Thailand's north east could easily put you off your dinner, reported Daily News.

A 79 year old man who had complained of pains in his abdomen was scheduled for surgery to remove a tumor from his bile duct.

A camera was put down his mouth to facilitate this but when the camera was removed it was attached to a tapeworm that had been living in the area.

As the surgeons pulled it kept coming and coming - two meters long in all!

Tapeworms can appear in people after consuming uncooked pork, beef or buffalo meat. These are common in Isaan dishes such as Laap and naem.

They can also occur after infection from animal feces in water or after contact with an infected person.

Gawd and i just took some pork out the freezer for tonights dinner, yuk.

the warning about getting worms from eating pork meat is much older than Islam and also much older than the Jewish religion ....but both religions were smart enough to incorporate it in their teachings

and the talk of making sure you properly cook your pork!

 - so I guess that means according to that LOGIC, it's okay to eat the wormed meat, so Long as it's cooked!!!

 For reference (Google):-

The longest tapeworm ever removed from a human was 82 feet long, and was removed from a patient in India. The man had complained of abdominal pain for several months and had anemia. A tapeworm is a parasite (Diphyllobothrium datum) that can live in the small intestine and has the ability to grow rapidly.

Just pop into your local chemist every 6 months & get a broad spectrum worm tablet Price 29 Bht

I line the family up every 6 months for them & wash all the linen that day.

Even eating a salad you can ingest the eggs, it does not have to be meat

Seems radical to do, what is the side effects of the tablets? Doesnt sound healthy if not absolutely needed

Anyone else concerned about the quality of the diagnosis?

Going in after a tumor, and finding a tapeworm?

In your rush to denigrate the local medical profession, there's absolutely nothing to suggest that the worm's host doesn't (still) have a bile duct tumor.

No side effects whatsoever but it's always good to have a poke around in your droppings to see what died.
