rooster59
Made in Thailand COVID-19 vaccine could be ready in April Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Higher Education Minister has indicated that a COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by Thai researchers could be released as early as April, while the country is now ranked the 36th country on the Bloomberg Innovation Index. The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Anek Laothamatas has revealed the progress of COVID-19 vaccine candidates now under development by Thai researchers, saying that the projects are on track with good results to date. Currently, a candidate vaccine developed by the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, is currently in the final Phase 3 clinical trial. This vaccine could be available to the general public as early as late-April or early-May this year. Another promising vaccine development project is a project by Baiya Phytopharm, using a unique technique by introducing the virus’ genome into plants, essentially using plants to produce proteins for vaccine manufacture. The vaccine prototype from Baiya Phytopharm is on track for a clinical trial in humans in June, and is expected to be available to the general public towards the end of the year. There are currently five more candidate vaccines developed in Thailand where further tests are required to gauge their efficacy. The MHESI expects these locally developed vaccines will help the country depend less on imported vaccines. The Higher Education Minister also announced that Thailand has been ranked the 36th most innovative country, in the Bloomberg Innovation Index; of 60 countries ranked, Thailand’s position was an improvement on its 40th place last year.*** He said this improved ranking guarantees Thailand’s ability to reduce inequalities, develop innovations for better health and medicine, promote the country’s solutions to environmental issues and pollution, as well as innovations to cope with uncertainties and crises following the COVID-19 pandemic. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-02-06 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Behind the success of the mRNA ‘CU-Cov19’ vaccine “All the monkeys that received the vaccine showed an improved immunity level and the monkeys that received higher dosages showed higher signs of improved immunity levels. We also discovered that all monkeys were in good health and showed no side effects from receiving the vaccine. These results are at a satisfactory level and the Specialist Vaccine Researching Centre is currently commissioning vaccines for human trials by volunteers as planned, from October to December 2563BE onwards. However, it still needs to be approved by the board of Human Research Ethics and the Food and Drug Administration first and it is estimated that we will be able to open applications to volunteers as early as the middle of September” Prof. Dr. Kiat Ruxrungtham states. http://www.sustainability.chula.ac.th/report/938/#:~:text=Most recently on the 12th,are currently awaiting the green

Firstly this is not just a Chulalongkorn University development, in fact its a collaboration between Chulalongkorn University’s vaccine research centre and Pennsylvania University in the US. Its additionally sounds like most of the work has already been done by Pennsylvania University "The university received prototype vaccines from factories in the United States" https://thethaiger.com/news/national/chulalongkorn-universitys-covid-19-vaccines-to-start-human-trials 4 hours ago, rooster59 said: is currently in the final Phase 3 clinical trial No its not in Phase 3 clinical trials, it may never even enter that stage! The centre’s director, Dr. Kiat Ruxrungtham, said that the initial human trials will be conducted on 72 volunteers, to assess the right dosages. This will be followed by the second stage, lasting from June until September, to test the efficacy and safety of the vaccine on about 600 volunteers. Dr. Kiat said the centre will decide whether the third stage of the trial can be skipped, depending on technical data available at the time. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thailands-chulalongkorn-uni-to-begin-human-trials-of-its-mrna-vaccine-in-april/

Cake Monster
Some kind of statement such as this had to be issued to try and save the massive loss of Face, and all the ridicule the Government has been receiving over its farcical procurement of vaccines for the Nation.

bkk6060
Invent your own vaccines? What is the point? Grow up and face reality. There are already reliable/proven vaccines from first world countries why not order some and save lives now.

ICELANDMAN
Registered, I look forward to seeing the vaccine tested in phase 3 this year or next year or maybe another year when the Covid will be gone by itself like all the global epidemics. Plenty of examples of individual uni. deans and committees of deans attempting to influence change but were smacked down very quickly by the education min. old guard. I'm aware of organised meetings to present ideas for change to the 'old guard' which achieved nothing other than the 'innovators' being told quickly and strongly that they were way out of line/how dare they say one word to the 'old guard', which strongly suggested change therefore it was highly critical of current (very old) philosophies/policies/operational approaches, etc. As I understand it the new ministry/minister was given a mandate to work without inputs from the old philosophies/ no need to get approvals from the 'old guard', strongly push for change and to applaud change and to push other ministries to strongly push discussions and actions for change. And that includes science areas and I guess that could include health. Ultimately of course it's desirable that there is one voice and the voice is clearly aligned to the subject at hand. (And is seen as credible.)
newnative
Well, another day, another minister trotted out for more jabber, jabber, jabber on this train wreck of covid vaccine procurement. I wonder how many ministers are left, perhaps tomorrow it will be Transportation or Environment. All the jabber jabber can be boiled down to 'we screwed up, we're still screwing up and still totally disorganized, and we have no vaccines in any significant numbers in sight'.
