The waters off Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani will be blocked from 15th Feb to 15th May, while the waters from Khao Ta Mong Lai mountain in Prachuap Khiri Khan to Hua Hin will be closed for 30 days from 16th May. The closure will allow the mackerel population to grow, Fisheries Department chief Mesak Pakdeekong said. Mr Pakdeekong added that local fishermen can still catch fish during the ban, providing their boats weigh less than 10 gross tonnage and have engines smaller than 280 horsepower. Anyone who violates the commercial fishing ban 5,000 THB and 30 million THB depending on the size of the fishing vessel, Bangkok Biz News reported. 1 1 3

Iron Tongue 686
The Chinese fleets will drag gill nets up to 5 miles long that catches everything in the water including mammals, which drown after becoming entangled in the nets. When a fleet passes through, they leave nothing living behind having destroyed the marine ecosystem from top to bottom.
