Pattaya: Beautiful Chinese lanterns brighten up the area and chase away the demons

Pattaya Update News reported that Thais of Chinese descent were welcoming in the New Year that started today, February 11th.

 

They said that these people had been busy cleaning their houses, as is their custom, and buying foods like pork, duck, chicken, fruits and various sweets and cakes.

 

Last night they went to Na Klua Road and its sub-sois in Bang Lamung and found it brighter than normal and beautiful with red lanterns marking the occasion.

They said that Thai/Chinese believe that the red lanterns will chase away bad things like bad spirits. 

 

Some even hang them in their cars to ward off danger. 

 

The coming year is the year of the Ox, notes Thaivisa.

what i can see, the red lanterns have made a big mistake! instead of bad spirits, they've chased away  tourists leaving pattaya's streets empty

Chinese red lanterns are not meant to chase bad spirits away, let alone demons.  Firecrackers are. 

Red lanterns are for celebrating occasions and festivals and they come from buddhist origins. 

 

Thais seem to want to get everything wrong.
