The weekly briefing of Thailand's Immigration Bureau fronted by chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang had only one case of note to report.

This was the arrest of an alleged Malaysian fraudster for stealing 10 million baht.

Bo Phut police on the holiday island of Koh Samui had been informed by a company that their employee Mr Low who they called "Uncle Wooi", aged 43, had disappeared with 10 million baht that was meant to have been paid to a contractor for work on construction projects.

Bo Phut police set about looking for him but failed to find any trace and then an arrest warrant for fraud was issued by the court.

Immigration got involved and discovered that the Malaysian had gone to Surat Thani city to visit his girlfriend.

He was nabbed in a market in Muang district and acknowledged he was the person named in the warrant.

His last entry to Thailand was at Sadao in January of last year. He had extended this up to the end of October but thereafter had not done anything about his visa.

So as well as the warrant for fraud he was also on overstay of 99 days.

Thai media Naew Na that frequently reports immigration activities referred to the Malaysian's arrest with language along the lines of "double whammy" in their headline.

Immigration officers also reported on the latest measures being taken to secure the borders during the pandemic.

If he was on overstay then how would immigration find him so quickly ?

Sounds like he took the money from someone with loads of cash or influence and they told the police to pull out all the stops to find this guy .

in this country : You don't cross somebody above a certain level , he's lucky

the Boys in Brown got to him first .... otherwise he'll be staying in Nirvana .
