Thai media Daily News hailed Highways Department plans for the expansion of Route 4 between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in the north of Thailand.

They said it could create a tourism boom and enhance trade possibilities between the northern Thai cities and Laos and Myanmar.

One 47 km stretch in the Mae Jedi area will be dual carriageway in both directions.

Plans and economic impact assessments are expected to be completed in September 2021 with construction utilizing 2023 budgets.

Work is expected to be complete by 2025.

It's all part of Route 118 between the two northern Thai cities.

Permission is being sought to use forestry department land but once that is given the plans look set to become a reality.

Brilliant now the road will never be finished? I has been a year already.

More than a year try 2 years. Went up to CR a couple of months ago and the completed portions are fantastic the sections under construction are a pain. If they are going all the way to CR what part are they using after the present construction area. a lot of residences along sections of the road.

Ooh lovely. Cars will presumably be able to travel on either carriageway while rushing to the casinos just over the border...
