Chonburi Public Health Office on Monday confirmed an Australian and a Chinese national tested positive for COVID-19.

The couple, who tested positive in Banglamung district, have lived in Thailand for three years, Chonburi Public Health Deputy Chief Dr Wichai Tanasophon revealed.

The couple tested positive after getting tested before they had been due to take a trip overseas.

Dr Wichai said the couple were asymptomatic and probably had the virus for a long time due to the viral load being of such a small amount.

Because of this, it is unlikely they are contagious, Dr Wichai said.

The exact details of their infection remains under investigation.

The couple have now been placed in quarantine and health officials have begun contact tracing.

The two cases bring the total number of cases in Chonburi to 652. No new cases were reported on Tuesday (16 Feb)

The message from Chonburi Public Health Office is to always maintain social distancing, wear a mask, regularly wash hands or use a hand sanitizer and use the Thai or MorChana contact tracing apps.

I don't get it..an expat couple who tested positive somehow becomes a breaking news in Pattaya's social media.

If Covid cases are so extremely rare in the region, then what's the reason for some of these extreme measures???

Or...is it not so?!

Where are reports that "asymptomatic cases do not spread the disease' ?

The latest outbreak was exactly the opposite, spread by asymptomatic carriers, through Samut Sahkon and onto other provinces.

Don't remember offhand where except that it was in various responses to comments I made in other topics re the potential spread.

I honestly believe that the virus can be spread by both symptomatic and asymptomatic, and there are probably quite a lot who have exhibited some mild symptoms and shrugged them off (cured), thereby now being middle ground between being symptomatic and asymptomatic.

As has been said by others, "no testing, no find, no have COVID".

It's out there probably in larger numbers than some suspect and probably wider spread the the government will admit to.

The number of cases being found would appear to be asymptomatic, and if as has been widely reported in this forum "asymptomatic cases do not spread the disease' why are these 2 being quarantined.

I read in a newspaper that in The Netherlands more than 13% of people tested already have

antibodies in their system.

Imo if you would test for antibodies here in Thailand you will find it to be much much higher!

What? This is new to me.

Is everyone supposed to be tested before they leave Thailand? and tested again when they enter Thailand?

This is too much. They should concentrate on illegal border crossing instead.

Just now, Surelynot said:

...and in English?

He's saying that there are less cases due to less sensitive testing recommended by the WHO.

There's a home test by Ellume that's just as accurate as a PCR test, and one coming out from AnteoTech that's designed for point-of-care use. So testing will be easy and accurate.

PCR testing at how many cycles in thailand now ?    35x  ?  42x ?  45x ?

since BIDEN, WHO told labs to check their manual and don't do over 35x cycles

and guess what.... yeah... president BIDEN miracle now less new cases

mhhhhhh

surely anything above 35x will be inaccurate anyway.

Thus making positives more predominant !

Instead of asking for a link why dont you post proof that they have been effectivly and aggressivly testing in Thailand. Which isnt the case.

Having Thai family in and around bangkok and other areas they havent seen any testing so wheres your proof that they are testing ?

Thought not.

Oh yeah, so it's for the entry requirement into Australia that require the Covid test.

In this case, likely (can't say I've looked into where they wanted to go). But there are a number of destinations that require negative tests depending on origin, some countries need negative tests when transiting and some airlines that you need negative tests to fly.

Country requirements around the world: https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/world.php

For airlines, check their websites.
