I just wanna add that tourist business will never come again not even close to what used to be before simply because the low-middle class where those tourists used  to come from is under attack and under demolition in almost all the countries where Thailand were one of the preferred tourist destination, chosen because tourist friendly, fair prices, somehow cheaper than other destinations, good nightlife and, last, with good food, beautiful beaches and temples. Destinations like Samui were dying already long before the covid-19 due to vampiric management of  tourists and residents.

But the national catastrophe is arriving, can be seen everywhere . There are many businesses not strictly related to tourism, but somehow connected, that are choking.

yes good one, I see it as the way they think "Im ok jack" just show a token effort in doing their jobs.....  until they sack them or at least reduce their salaries.. And the BG mentality of simply  doubling prices because.. ahhhhmm need money?..........

It's Bitcoin Cash (BCH), not Bitcoin (BTC), and it's possible to buy fractions of Bitcoin. Now it's easy with apps like Coinomi wallet.

Before I also had around 0.4 Bitcoin (BTC) in my hard drive, but it failed and the backup as well, so it's all gone...

Technically speaking your bitcoin hasn't gone anywhere, its still on the bitcoin blockchain as all crypto is, on their own respective blockchains. What you actually "store" on your hard drive or any other hardware wallet for that matter is the private key. I'm assuming you don't have a note of that? If you do you can retrieve your bitcoin.

I am so ashamed to have chosen to retire here.

Well unless you're writing that post from the monkey house why don't you move somewhere else then? If you retired here on a shoestring and can't afford to move then your original mistake was miscalculating your financial status not your retirement location. Your comment makes no sense.

I doubt that the high flying Japanese will be queuing to visit Thailand any time soon.....The mass exodus from Japan to visit Thailand is yet another stab in the dark from TAT.

The good people of Thailand  who have need a bit of positive news will be laughing their socks off with this latest flash news.

Donald Trump or TAT?

I think even DT would win on fake news ????????????

who sees the bull sh-- ads on Facebook about big time people buying bitcoin (not true) but the ads stay on Facebook for months, surely that is illegal, cybercurrency is nothing (thin air) one day it will crash, and so will everyone involved

And fiat currency is based on what? The gold standard was removed decades ago, it's all based on the same 'belief' system. A dollar is worth a dollar because you and the next man believe it is, nothing more. In fact it's actually worse than that because governments continually "print" billions of dollars/pounds etc of new money, diluting everyone's savings at an alarming rate. Not bad enough? How about negative interest rates that some countries already have introduced and others, including the UK, are now considering. You can't do that with Bitcoin, it has a finite supply and there can never be more than 21 million coins. It's a store of value, nothing else. I agree with others who have commented its not suited to small transactions but there are other cryptos much more suited to it.

With all due respect I think your knowledge regarding the subject is somewhat limited, akin to the folk that used to predicted doom and gloom for motor vehicles when the internal combustion engine was invented.

Yes, where $1 is divided up into 100 pennies, 1 bitcoin is divided up into its base unit of 100,000,000 Satoshi. Easy to buy small amounts.

Bitcoin Cash is much cheaper, around $725.

So sad you lost your coin. Is this a tragic boating accident?

Think we see the last desperate wishfull thinking. Who want to visit Thailand anymore. They have cheated tourists for decades,  and i don't feel sorry for them at all.

This is the correct answer.

They deserve everything they are getting and it is only going to get much worse.

When will Thailand realise that the country has little to nothing to attract wealthy tourists. Those with real money go to places with impeccable service standards all the time, good value for money which rich people demand even though they are rich, sophisticated and reliable infrastructure, countries where all who deal with foreigners understand and speak perfect English, places where their life is not in danger from lunatic drivers and hanging wires, where they are not deluged under piles of forms that require 20 signatures if they want to apply for anything official. And the authorities flat out refuse to tackle problems such as air pollution caused by illegal burning, or taxi mafia in places such as Phuket or Pattaya, where taxis have meters that never, ever work. Foreigners do not want to put up with such nonsense. I could go on.

As long as Thailand believes it is the most desirable place on Earth and therefore no real effort needs to be made to attract people it will continue to attract only the lower end of the market, people who come because it is a bargain destination. Except now it isn't, because whereas in the real world prices might increase by two or three percent at a time, in Thailand they increase by 20 percent. That has now caught up with them and the country is no longer cheap. Almost everything that foreigners require that is of a similar quality and standard to what they have at home is now more expensive than from where they come from. So why come?

I am a wealthy crypto holder.

Unfortunately for the TAT I'm also a cheapskate.

I sincerely tried for near a week to get account and wallet set up, eventually just gave up as paper work and verifications required were worse than marriage extension.

It is in no way annonomous.  And much easier to open a bank accout than set up with bit coin.

????‍♂️

It is anonymous and do not require any paperwork if you choose to store coins on your personal computer rather than trust your coins to some third party residing somewhere "in the cloud".

So are we.

I can't even tell you how many Thais I've met that want out of here because they have said Thailand has not good anymore and only getting worse. Thailand has no future. These are all current university students recently graduated or high school seniors that if they could would leave Thailand after high school and study at University abroad. Then only come back to thailand to visit family sometimes.

All good comments, but people should not forget that way before C19 turned up the Gov and Immigration were having a field day creating new hoops to get rid of foreigners ( Namely western farangs ) with the dream of enticing millions of Chinese to replace them.  Unfortunately for them their little pipe dream was stood on by Miss Karma...... I'm sure none of us have forgotten "Big Joke" and his quest to rid Thailand of those "Dirty Farangs"....... I'm loving the fact that now they're going to have to chew on a nice big wedge of humble pie just to pull the country out of the death dive that it's in....... And the only ones that the people want back, and government needs back, are those "Dirty Farangs" including the backpackers who launched the country onto mass tourism that brought in Millions for years....... Since 2014 no one could of predicted how disasterous the influence of the shiny button brigade would have on Thailand.......  Completely knackered.......

As usual they’re talking about something they really don’t understand.

THEY understand it well, it's YOU forum members who do not understand the simple fact: Thailand does not want backpackers anymore, only rich tourists are welcome.

Click "back" button in your browser to go to the "Thailand News" subforum and read all those topics about selling elite condos to Chinese millionaires, converting Pattaya to Dubai and such.

By the time Thailand opens up, all backpackers, hostels, guest Houses will be owned by the Chinese, and will have been converted into gold shops, money exchanges, and Chinese hotels.

Maybe we will see a few casinos thrown in as well.

Then when the high speed cattle trucks start to run business will boom for Chinese investors, they probably won't be accepting  Bitcoin.

I'd put money on that, ........I think if anything is finally going to persuade the government to buckle in the casino debate, it would be the Chinese demand..............

The quality v quantity argument is going on all over the world.Venice, Amsterdam, the Spanish islands,Bali and so on.

I know the Chinese-Indian middle class is growing but they are not any better than the European masses, they may not put up with the <deleted> service that we Europeans do.How many elite condos actually exist? what I read is that the ones being built are mostly under 50 square metres, only big enough for their man servants.

Bitcoin for now is not really a currency. It´s more like digital gold.
You can´t really use bitcoins for everyday transactions a nd not likely even for bigger transactions.
The cost of every payment is about 15-20 $. Also bitcoin change value to fast for normal transactions.
If a seller wants 500 $ for a purchase and accept the equivalent to that in bitcoin. The minute after the transaction the bitcoin is worth 300 $. The seller is not willing to take that risk. Same with the buyer, He pays the equivalent to 500 $ but the next minute value changed and is now worth 800 $. For normal transactions you are not willing to take that risk/chance. Not even thais.
For now it´s just a fast fluctuating digital gold. Good for investment but not for paying.
