Thailand ranked fifth best in world for cultural heritage influence in 2021

CEOWORLD magazine says for countries rich in heritage, Thailand is first that comes to mind

Bangkok – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that Thailand has been named the fifth best country for the cultural heritage influence in 2021 according to a recent report by New York-based CEOWORLD magazine.

 

According to CEOWORLD, “When we speak of countries rich in heritage, the first name that pops into our mind is Thailand. Although the nation is home to stunning beaches, a fascinating culture, and crazy nightlife, the heritage of the landmass is also an exception in terms of beauty.

 

There are a myriad of places across the country that possess the rich earthiness of village life, influences of local traditions, and remnants of a splendid culture. From Sukhothai, Ayutthaya to Ban Chiang, visitors flock to these places to appreciate the ancient history of the Thai culture.”

 

In order to determine the rankings, researchers at the CEOWORLD magazine analysed and compared 165 countries across nine primary attributes: architecture, artistic legacy, fashion, food, music, literature, history, cultural attractions, and culturally accessible.

 

It believes that rather than economic, political, or military might, it is the cultural heritage of these countries that most strongly impacts the wider world.

 

Raw data for countries were normalised on a 1-100 scale according to the following: Each individual indicator was given equal weighting within each of the nine categories with some indicators being comprised of 2-3 sub-indicators that were also weighted equally. Each category was weighted equally to arrive at the overall index.

 

Thailand was ranked in the fifth place with a score of 93.67.

 

CEOWORLD magazine put together a panel of experts to go over data points culled from sources like the EIU Index, World Economic Forum, Global Insight, the Global Gender Gap Index, Gini, and Gender Gap index, The Legatum Prosperity Index, Transparency International, Environmental Performance Index, Better Life Index, CIA World Factbook, World Bank, UNDP Annual Report, as well as CEOWORLD magazine research.

 

They then used that information to compare the world’s best countries for the cultural heritage influence. Based on a consensus from these sources, the final choice of cities was judged editorially, as was their position on the list. All data were for the most recent period available.

 

The margin of sampling error for the 196,300 respondents is plus or minus 1.2 percentage points. According to CEPWORLD, in addition to sampling error, one should bear in mind that as in all survey research, there are possible sources of error – such as, coverage, nonresponse, and measurement error – that could affect the results.

Well I suppose 'crazy nightlife' could count as 'cultural heritage'. After all, it does seem to have been going on for time immemorial.

You'd better book now seeing as it's a TAT press release. There's bound to be millions signing up for this, especially now 'crazy nightlife' is part of it.

It must be the 'sexy' that was being referred to only a couple of weeks ago.

Finally some good news, and then some of you have the audicity to mock it. Thailand has hundreds of old historical towns, far more then the likes of Italy, France and Spain (don't even mention Belgium, Germany, India, Japan, etc.), and its preservation of historically important landmarks, such as the Vinmanmek mansion, the colonial buildings in Phrae and Dusit zoo, is internationally recognized. 

 

Well done Thailand, and it's ver ygood that this TAT sponsored magazine, takes notice of the endless efforts of the Thai government.

It is a knee-jerk reaction . I have been a member of this forum for  over 13 years and it has always been the same.

I feel sad for  people that  have to be in a place they have such low opinion of. They must not be able to afford the better places. LOL

I agree. Good point! However, I am disappointed the article did not mention what the 4 best countries are for cultural heritage. Anyone Know?

All right , there were other countries involved also.

Agreed but the toxic 2.5 PM air pollution engulfing all these historical sites for 6 months of the year kills it for me. Both Chiang Mai and Bangkok made top 10 most polluted cities in the world list this morning. ????

In 2020 according to US News, the top ten countries for heritage & culture out of 80 countries were #1 Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Germany, Australia, UK, US, Sweden, Netherlands, and Norway.

India ranks #25, followed by Thailand #26 and Greece #27.

Indeed so. And had you noticed that they're nearly always wrong? Thailand ranks 104 out of 179 countries. 1 being the least corrupt. Now granted that's not good, but there are 75 that are worse.

It always amazes me the spin such people put on things to BS the public.

"The rich earthiness of village life" haha , I always wondered why the billionaires never flock out from their city castles to rub shoulders with those living close to nature [and poverty].

Thailand has no cultural heritage, it's all copied from India and China, with a bit of the West thrown in. Unlike, say, Japan, I don't see any synthesis that's created something new - bad artists copy, good artists steal. Ladyboys and easy women are Thailand's cultural heritage, if truth be told. Not knocking it - for a taste of the east (aside from the ladyboys and easy women thing), Thailand's great, all the advantages and none of the downsides.
