Phichet said that the tourists were impressed by the safety measures and were already calling Thailand great hosts.

If you pay my 14-day stay in a 5-star luxury resort i would be very impressed also, or just say whatever you want me to say.

The first group of 59 tourists for the so called "villa quarantine" arrived in Phuket on Sunday night.

The tourists - from the US, UK, France and Finland - will be staying at the Sri Panwa Hotel on the southern Thai island, reported Daily News.

Print media reported that they will be confined to their villas for the first five days but then will be able to use the facilities at the resort for the remainder of their 14 day quarantine.

The tourists arrived in two separate flights from Indonesia. The first group of 13 on Garuda International touched down at 8.20 pm while the rest arrived after 10 pm.

They were met by deputy governor Phichet Panapong and Patong hospital director Meuanphrae Boonlom and disease control officials.

Twenty five immigration booths were prepared so there was no overcrowding.

After documentation and initial screening formalities were accomplished they were taken in convoy to the X-Terminal for Covid tests.
