If you've always done what you've always got - you'll always get what you've always got !. Not Rocket Science.....So...set up a "Think Tank" made ups of intelligent farangs instead of relying on the Sunk Tanks from within whom appear to be the laughing stock of the world.

They never stop giving false hope to the natives, problem is most of the natives that i know believe them

Promise more, deliver less. Recipe for success in politics (at least in Thailand).

Sometimes, as much as I love Thailand, you just have to roll your eyes and accept the craziness. Every day a new target. 2M, 10M, a gallizion from the planet Mars, everything in TAT's universe is possible.

My wife is much more sanguine about it.

She'll give me one of those Thai lady looks and say; "What do you expect? It's Thailand idiot boy"

"Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yutthasak Suphaorn was quoted as saying that 10 million tourists - presumably this year - would be "mai yaak"- no problem."

I was going to say something similar, but decided to go with "Oh, that's all right then - TAT said so!"

Thailand's tourism authorities are putting their faith in celebrities, reality TV stars, net idols and influencers to get millennials flooding into Thailand, reported the Thai media.

Put your faith in fake. Always works out...

A year is a long time. Maybe last quarter of 2021 after vaccine has reached many places and people it may well be possible.

The 3rd quarter starts in October , at that point a very low percentage of the Thai population will have been vaccinated.

That makes it a less than ideal destination , TAT seem to be in complete denial of that fact.

Actually, much as I enjoy mocking authority, unless I'm missing something, this seems kind of doable, assuming they mean total arrivals, not just from Asia. 2019 tourism arrivals:

Oct 3.1m

Nov 3.4m

Dec 3.9m

Total for last 3m of 2019: 10.4m = TAT

They 'just' need things to go 'back to normal' by Q4/ improve a bit earlier and largely recover by Q4/ some combination...

these announcements are getting kind of scary. these people actually run a country. let that sink in.

Mai yaak means, not difficult, no problem if they can get walking St ready in time. This is what Thailand, sorry the Chinese Thai that are firmly in control of the great leader wants.

People will soon be marching through Suvanabum in great lines again waving their vaccination certificates in the air, the Japanese private clubs in Bangkok will be busy sprucing their places up.

Chinese hotels will be dusting the cobwebs off, there will be flags flying saying thank you Sino Vac.

I can't wait.

It's okay. They don't believe what they are saying either. Every day they have to come up with a statement in order to keep their job. I, and they, don't believe that even the Chinese would agree to carry a tracking device so that authorities working for a military government can know their every movement. North Koreans, maybe. Have they tried that? Tomorrow, perhaps. Stay up-to-date with ThaiVisa.

If quarantine is dropped entirely, expect 2 million, or less tourists for the remainder of the year. Possibly 3 million in 2022. And up to 5.million in 2023 and 2024. I doubt we will see 10 million a year, within five to ten years. And we will never see the numbers Thailand used to see.

They will continue to get more Indian, Malaysian and Chinese tourists. But most will be lower income, and lower middle income tourists. Thailand just cannot attract higher income tourists anymore. Very few. The focus on quantity over quality will continue to erode the nation on countless levels. More is rarely better. It just lowers the quality of life for nearly everyone, creates more congestion, more smog, more traffic, longer lines at immigration, and makes life difficult, especially in the big cities. There are countless things the government could be doing, if they wanted to attract the high quality tourists, and go for quality over quantity. Quantity over quality is never a good thing, unless you are selling one dollar items at a swap meet. It just lowers the quality of the experience for all.

These issues and problems were becoming apparent long before Covid. And none were being addressed. That is part of my point. Tourism had been declining for years already. The numbers were up. But the quality of tourist was way down. And according to everyone I spoke to last year, the year before and the year before that, income was way, way down. So, "this blame it all on Covid scenario" is somewhat disengenuous. Sure, Covid is huge. And the drop now is stunning. But, my point is there were plenty of issues prior to Covid. And are any of them being addressed?

Very well said, Chinese tourists in big numbers travel around in bus loads, same as Koreans, well healed travel first-class and travel in nice cars.

People just don't have the money now, due to the world in recession.

There will probably be a glut of hotels and condos for sale in LOS for some time. It will take a humungus effort to get all the airlines up and running, the street vendors humming, and the bar girls dancing.

But if they build a few casinos in Phuket and Chiang Mai, they might get a few million Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese, no where near what is needed to get tourism flying again, and not a good thing for local people.
