Popular Post webfact
Pattaya: Going green! Electric "Baht bus" trial coming soon Picture: Sophon Cable TV Pattaya is going green as mayor Sontaya Khunpluem's dreams of turning the resort into a "Smart City" take shape. Agreements or MOU have been reached with Toyota to supply both electric and hydrogen powered vehicles. Ten small electric vehicles will be trialled in a public transport pilot plan next month while towards the end of 2021 five electric song thaews (known as baht buses there) will ply the streets in a further trial run. The mayor and Toyota officials have been meeting to discuss the infrastructure needed such as charging stations. Pictures: Sophon Cable TV Two are planned on At Jinda Road and opposite the Sukhawadee Mansion near the baht bus head office. Hydrogen vehicles are also planned to pick up needy people at Bali Hai port and take them from ferries. The aged and pregnant women would benefit from this other example of going green. The mayor said he aims to reduce carbon emissions and make Pattaya a "Smart City". Hydrogen powered vehicles are quite specialised and will not make mass production in the way Batt' powered electric vehicles will so the idea that Toyota will make them some for shuttling people from Bali Hai is noise coming out of his bottle'n'glass .. it would be far better just to buy Battery powered ones once they become available on masse .. though given the likely cost expect backtracking and excuse laying on that as well ..

HarrySeaman
Electric baht buses that can take you anywhere in the city vs a monorail with supports that take up half of the road it travels over and will only go to a few places. Seems like a no brainer to me - the monorail wins hands down because it will result in thicker brown envelopes, which is much more important than the convenience of the citizens. PETERTHEEATER
The Charging Stations referred to are ticket booths where would be passengers will be overcharged (it's a pun) for any ticket to anywhere. As to hydrogen.......bring your own cylinder, you will need it!
redwood1
So who is going to be paying for these snazzy electric baht buses? And the charging stations? And the battery replacements?.....Not the baht bus drivers that's for sure....They are barely scraping by now....

I love that they can stop smywhere, with a simple press of the Button. 2. Anyone that drives a Motocy directly behind a Baht Bus, deserves what they get. Anyone getting mowed down from behind is not driving the Motocy fast enough and shouldn't be on the road. 3. Pedestrians should stay on the Footpaths/Pavements/Sidewalks, until it's safe(ish) to step into the road.

Baht buses are cheap transport for the penniless causing traffic jam ups and accidents everywhere... there are no Footpaths/Pavements/Sidewalks to use and even where there might be they are put to other uses or laid claim upon. LittleBear57
Great now you won't even hear the Baht buses when they mow you down. Seriously though, when we visited Hong Kong, there are lots of Tesla's etc. and they were pretty much silent. I never realised how much I relied on my ears when walking around or crossing the road. Yes I have indeed been to Pattaya, sat in too many Baht busses to count, hung onto the back and swung about in the swerving songthaew to Jomtien. I have also trudged through the Sois, manouvering through the rubble that passes for footpaths. There may be more baht buses than regular cars circling 2nd and Beach road, the most hideous Wizened Witch may be in charge by the school for the Jomtien mustering point. But I still love the Baht Bus and hope they are never discontinued

With Bolt you put in pick up and drop off locations and get a price, you know the cost before setting foot in the cab. Example, Floating market to Cosy beach in spotless clean SUV was 70 baht, very good service.

I prefer the lesser number Bolt comes up with. Compared to what they used to cost me... Bolt comes up with 1/4 of that, although I usually pay about 1/2.
