Direct flights from CNX to other Thai airports reduced?

Been looking for direct flights from Chiang Mai to southern Thailand destinations in mid-March and there don't really seem to be any - anyone know anything? Even flights to Phuket or Samui are coming up as going via Bangkok rather than the usual direct routes. Is this just due to lack of demand or something else?

Reduced? I think the term you are looking for in none at all. You can fly to DMK or BKK at this time and that's it, all the other direct flights were canceled due to the last corona outbreak. None of the airlines have announced the reintroduction of flights elsewhere yet although they will likely start appearing in the next few weeks.

You can book direct flights to Bangkok yes but also Rayong, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchatani. But not to the mainstream beach/holiday destinations. Yet you can still fly to Phuket, Samui etc if you connect via Bangkok. Is reappearing in the next few weeks something you've read somewhere or just a guess?

What else then lack of demand?

Thaismile flights from Khon Kaen to Suvarnabhumi have been reduced from four to one(!) daily.

(increase next month as per schedule)

Will do my first car ride down south since 2019 next week.

Samui: highly depending on foreign tourism which is close to zero.

So what?

I flew there last July from Suv. on a turboprop. Not even that was fully booked.

Ranong no flights (NokAir in deep freeze), U-Tapao closed, ...

(arbitrary examples)

Just browsed through three days of flights from Chiang Mai.

And the only one that did not go to Bangkok (BKK, DMK) is U-Tapao.

So seems U-Tapao is not closed anymore.

And the majority of flights to Bangkok took place.

So at least well connected here.

Two flights to other destinations shown: Nakhon Si Thammarat and Seoul.

Both not taken place.
