I can agree to this one. Never had an issue with any Thai whatsoever, certainly not with motorbike drivers, and certainly not being attacked violently. I think the only two Thais I actually had an issue with were girls who didn’t wanna leave.

I absolutely condemn such actions, but, there are always 2 sides to every story... 
unprovoked attacks here are very, very rare indeed. In fact, they are far more common in most western countries.

DIsgusting and sad.

Most that have lived here for awhile I doubt go there very often. 

In the past, maybe on a rare night with curious visitors for a few laughs.

I have not personally gone for about 2 years.   Got some blood splattered on my shirt walking past a 

fight between 2 Russians that were ultimately arrested.  

Many other venues options that provide a superior experience, value and treatment in town.

Guys get sucked into the sexual vortex of Pattaya and start thinking they are sexual Adonises, masters of the universe, an Alpha male's Alpha male. They start thinking treating Thai men contemptuously and unworthy to shine their shoes comes with the territory.

 

Motorcycle taxi drivers getting chiselled down on fares, short-shrifted on tips, and subjected to verbal abuse by drunken louts, oftentimes humiliated in front of Thai women, are on the front lines of this boorish behavior. This unfortunate Chilean guy may have paid for the sins of others earlier in the night, earlier in the week, earlier in the month.

 

Motorcycle taxi drivers are known for their affability in most parts of Thailand. If that's not the case in Pattaya, perhaps some self-reflection is in order.

I thought that attitude comes easily with being a forum member here and isn't necessarily exclusive to Pattaya.

try offering them the correct fare for your journey or what a Thai passenger would pay and see how well that goes - if you think paying 50baht to go 1km is ok when it should be 25baht then that is up to you

I rarely negotiate a fare upfront (only for longer distances). I either just pay what I deem appropriate upon arrival, which is based on my experience and talking to and observing locals, or I politely ask what it costs afterwards. Quite often, the motorbike driver would then ask what I normally pay for this route, at which point I either propose something I deem appropriate or tell him that I don’t come there often.
 

Maybe I’m vastly overpaying and that’s why I never had an issue with that approach, but the few fares I asked Thai colleagues to comment on seemed reasonable to them (20 Baht for 900m every morning to work; 30 Baht for 1.6km from my old condo; 60 Baht for 4km every other day to my gym). To be honest though, in the situations where they ask for 10-20 Baht more, it would feel petty to negotiate over such a small amount with someone who makes a fraction of what I have, even if I honk that a local may pay 10 Baht less. What do you counter-offer to a 10 Baht difference? “No, but I’ll go give you 5”? Live and let live.

That's not our TVF Thai Standard Practices narrative by our cultural experts. This is so awkward, though, 'cause no other Thais joined in--a big contradiction to what We All Know.

 

But here ya go: Soon, a news article will appear about a Thai Good Samaritan, maybe a taxi driver who returned a wallet. In fact, one driver did recently w/o any preceding crime against a tourist, so we can just use that as preemption.
