Confusion over visa

Recommended Posts

Visit back in Thailand every year just for 30 days normally however, virus has put a lid on that for a while.

Still have a query for when things get back to some form of normality.

Back in 2012 I had a dual entry Non-immigration-O visa issued and it was 90 days initially with a border run to pick up the last 90 days.

If I would have checked closer I could have had the normal 30 day entry on arrival and then used the 2 x 90 day later to get some more time there but..........anyhow

This allowed me to get a work permit if I needed one and to open a bank account.

Been looking on the Thai Consulate Canberra web site here in Aus and it looks like this no longer exists, or at least I've made a wrong turn somewhere.

Sydney still has a siilar looking form to what I had back in 2012 all-be-it with updated prices

https://sydney.thaiembassy.org/en/page/95336-forms?menu=5d847cc415e39c21b80061be

I imagine for 90 days each time.

Although, when I clock in on the ThaiEmbassy site, it still appears there.

Another issue is my wife's Thai passport ids almost due to expire and I looked at ways to have a new passport issued here in Aus.

Seems one needs to apply in person either in Sydney or Canberra which is pretty much out of the question currently/if ever.

Only way I can see to get around that is to get her an Aus passport as she has all the necessary pre-requisits and get a new Thai passport when we eventually get back to LOS.

Cheers Jorgo

Two entry non-o visas have not been issued for many years now. You can only get a single or multiple entry visa that allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue.

A non-o visa to visit your Thai spouse is shown on the embassy website page you posted a link to.

"Non-Immigrant Visa type O (for dependent, spouse and family visit, or spouse of Thai national)"

On the Canberra visa application form it shows this at the top of it.

The thaiembassy.com website is not a official site. At the bottom of the page you will see this.

"This is NOT the official website of the Thai Embassy."

It is a standard procedure that Thai passport can only be applied for in person. In pre covid 19 days they often had consular out reaches around some countries where they could be applied for.

If your wife got a Australian passport to leave Australia she could enter Thailand using her expired passport. Or she could apply for a certificate of identity to travel to Thailand.

Ok...thanks.

Aussie passport might be the best option.

Previously before becoming Aussie citizen she would have needed a resident return visa.

If your Thai wife intends entering on an Australian Passport, she's entering as a foreigner and will be subject to the same requirements.
